Once you marry, you will have to file an Adjustment of Status and the total cost is $1,010 in fees to the government. The K-1 is a temporary visa that only last 90 days. The Adjustment of Status is needed for you to become a permanant resident of the US and that is good for 2 years.

too late we have already paid them, but it only cost $1200.

WOW...filing this type of paperwork is NOT rocket science...i am now convinced that starting an "application support service" can be both, helpful and profitable $$$$$.....

Feb/March seems a reasonable guess, they have speeded up of late.

The person talking about expedite for military SO cases is correct only if the person is deploying or deployed to a danger zone will they grant the expedite. BUT because of the military background she already has all the FBI checks and everything as she has to have special clearances, there-for the good news is that it can still be quite quick to process as the checks will not take as long as a regular petition, her information is already logged military grade security, takes about 10 mins to pull up the file lol.

Hiya all.

Ill start with a few quick details about myself and my better half.

Im 31 and British, the other half is 24 and American. She was over here working for 3 years, met her in 2007 been with here pretty much since then, living together, and our first child is due Jan 10h 2010. She had to go back home in June 09.

We have hired a lawyer to do the K1, purely because we thought it would be easier with the paperwork etc.

All paper work sent to the USCIS, and on the 18th August 2009 they say they have received it, I have been given a case number, when i look online it says its at the 'Initial Review' stage, what i would like to know is the following.

How long does it usually stay at this stage for.

When would i expect to have my interview

When 'roughly' will i be able to enter the states.

I also see other people talk about the NAO1 NAO2 etc, what are these and should I have 1, as the only thing we have ever got from the lawyer is a email saying the USCIS have received it and dont expect to hear from us till Jan 2010 :(

Any help/advice would be much appreaciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

My fiance is British. We filed our K1 on April 1 and we are just finishing up. You'll see our timeline below.

You may want to search for the August K1 filer thread, if you haven't already. They sort the threads by whether you've filed with VSC (Vermont) or CSC (California). You can mingle with other August filers and see how their status is moving along at this phase.

Once VSC or CSC has approved your petition (NOA2), then come on over to the UK portal to follow along with the rest of it.

Keep in mind you can still travel to the US while your K1 is in process. You just have to bring proof that you have reason to return to the UK (job, return ticket, etc).

Can i just say, that i wish i found out about this website BEFORE we filed our I-129f, we used a company that have offices all over the states, a nice big flashy website...etc. They have been the most useless people with regards to help and answering any questions. They sent us a e-mail Aug 18th saying the petition has been filed don't contact us before 29th December 2009, if we hear anything we will contact you. I found out (through this website) that we have our NOA1, the lawyers haven't even sent us a copy of the documents they received. So guys, anyone that is looking to do a K1 visa, do it yourself and use this website, lots of friendly nice people willing to help.

Still not too sure where we are in the system though
