Virtual Walking Tour of the Alhambra

An incredible virtual walking tour of Alhambra. I find it hard to not be overwhelmed with emotion when looking at the architecture and remembering such an incredible time in history for Muslims. The science and achitectural skills were so advanced, and Muslims, Christians and Jews lived peacefully together.

Thanks for the link Rahma. You always have the greatest links. I wish you would open a http://del.icio.us account and share with me, lol. :P

I have never cared much for tours but these sound very interesting and it would be great to be among people who were there for the same reasons and have great discussions over lunch and dinner. Spain is on our list of future travel destinations as well.

The articles in the next issue DO look great. I hope they will keep the virtual tour online in archives because it really is amazing.

I tried to sign up, but it looks like you need to install buttons? Can I use it without installing buttons. I think work would frown upon installing any software on their computers  I do love to collect links. My blog folder has *goes to count* 81 blogs in it at the present.

(F) Esalaam and Hello (F)

Thanks very much for sharing that link.... Once upon a time in Andalus...There was no seperation between scientific study, wisdom or faith. Nor was East seperated from the West, nor was Muslims from Jew or Christian...The real European Renaissance began and flourished...

Andalucia is often referred to as the most prominent example of a tolerant and cultural Muslim state, an image enhanced by the lack of such qualities in contemporary Europe. In Andalucia peoples of different religions were allowed fair freedom of faith and expression.Consequently, locals regarded the Arabs and Berbers entering their land as liberators, not marauding aliens. Stories tell that where the Muslim army came, they were welcomed by rejoicing locals.Bad governance was the rule most of the peninsula, facilitating a fast conquest in the following decades. The Iberian peninsula was placed under control of the Caliphate, becoming a part of the Muslim civilization.

By examing the trejectory of Islam in Andalusia, the objective is not to praise the illusrtious dead, but reintroduce in our life the affirmation of absolute and universal values of Islam witout which our society will inevitably disintegrate.

The meaning of life at that time at the time of its Islamic apogy, directed each act daily as well as scientific and technical reseach.Spirutal greats like the Muslims ibn Rushdi and the Jewish Mainmonides were some of the men who showed us all the true message of Andalusia.

And the Great Mosque deserves its name of the Jewel of the 10th century...since according to the highest Muslim spirituality, beauty is one of the signs that envoke the divine presence. The inscriptions in the Kufi script proclaims the oneness of God.

Very great time in history...I wish I could actually go back in time, that would be the time period I would most liked to experienced.... miraclous i think for muslims, christians and jews living together in harmony ...and accomplishing so much.... such beauiful part of humanity's history...

But I guess in my conclusion I would just like to say... Thanks for that very nice post and link to the virtual tour...

Browsing through the July/August magazine website, did anyone notice the 9th century Baghdad recipes?! I'm so going to try out some of these recipes and host a medeival Baghdad party. They don't look too tough, and it would be an excuse to plant an herb garden.

Rahma,

I think http://del.icio.us can only be used with buttons :(

I did see the recipes and they sound good. The last issue also had recipes. I made the tomato appetizer (cannot recall the name off the top of my head) and it was very yummy.

Henia,

Thank you for your beautiful description of Al-Andalus. Isn't it amazing how much of the science is still relevant today, especially the irrigation? My husband's birthday recently passed and I gave him this book Muslim Heritage. It isn't heavy reading but briefly illustrates so many Muslim contibutions to science and technology.
