Bento Boxes

Yes - I'm a sucker for cute food. Then - boom - the New York Times has this article on bento boxes. I've spent weeks on blogs and amazon and bento shopping sites fantasizing about work lunch times for a job I don't even have yet.

Anyone here do this? It seems a bit time consuming but fun. I'm thinking of starting with a tiffin stack here before investing in the uber trendy boxes I've seen online...

I have no patience for it, but I love browsing online and seeing how creative and beautiful those boxes look. There are lots of online tutorials on youtube also, you should check it out.

How can you not get a giggle out of that while slaving away in your cubicle? I think that's what appeals to me the most.

It's the whole "oh, only took 22 minutes to pack" thing that has me doubting....

I think that is the whole idea - to take forever to make tiny bento boxes look sso adorable and amazing that you don't want to eat them!

The sausage octopi are crazy! How they just curl up like that?

But still - she had everything ready to go [and a talking dog] - still took almost 7 minutes.

I think it's the skin that shrinks in the heat that makes the legs curl out. I could never cook portions that tiny, I'd feel like I am not making enough. And what is up with the semi cooked egg? Konichiwa salmonella!

I love the bento boxes but even I don't have the patience to do that all the time. I make cute things for my little cousins sometimes but normally I just make pretty food without it looking like something cute.
