Hi,

Is anyone else going through this process with the worry that that their beneficiary will not receive the packet from from their consulate/embassy?

I have been on the phone twice today with the NVC and once with the consulate, who told me to call back NVC, who told me to call the consulate and now the consulate is not answering the phone. I can't seem to get a good answer as to what to do.

I just found out today that our petition went from NVC to Barbados, that is the consulate that serves the island of Antigua, where my fiance lives (yes, good news). Once it is received at the consulate in Barbados and processed, they send out the packet via air mail to Antigua.

The problem is that my fiance just moved to a new village in Antigua a couple of weeks ago. And basically in Antigua you only get your mail, if the person delivering the mail that day, happens to knows who you are and where you live. There are no address house #'s in Antigua, only the person's name, street and village. Being that he is new to that village, its a ####### shoot if he will get the mail. Then, it is even a larger ####### shoot if Antigua will even return the packet to Barbados, if it does not get delivered to the intended recipient.

I have dealt with their mail system myself and many things I sent to my fiance over the years have gone "lost". Utility bills are just tucked into homeowner's fences, not a reliable system at all!

Anyone else been through a situation like this and can offer any help or ideas to deal with this? We are both concerned that he will never get the packet from the consulate???

Thanks!

I think most of the countries have crappy mail. In Jamaica, you are lucky if they get mail at all. And, if they do, it has usually been rifled through.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You ought to contact the embassy directly to ask how the information is sent to the beneficiary.

As a person who lived in the Windies and went through this same thing trying to get visas to live/work in 3rd, 4th , and 5th countries I will say this:

It may be in your best interest to use GENERAL DELIVERY as your return address, go to the post, and get the packages yourself. Other than that, bribe/ butter up the postman. It's better that than staying vexed because old boy can't be bothered to deliver your mail on time.

I asked the consulate to e-mail me, the petitioner, my fiancé's packet since his mail is unreliable, and they did. I told him the area he was in, and they seemed to understand, since they e-mailed us the info just 2 days later. In the end the packet 3 did arrive to him . . . 3 weeks after I got the e-mail.

Personal packages I send always get riffled through at Argentina customs, and "red door" has proved to be the best indicator of his hard-to-find place for mailmen. Also, if someone isn't there when the mail comes by and the letter or package won't fit through the slot, he has to take off work to travel 2 hours to a mail warehose and stand in line for 2 more hours (minimum) and pay tarriffs charged by the day to get the mail.

09/23/2008 - moved to Buenos Aires together

Thanks, I think I will take a little of everyone's advice, I will see if I (petitioner) can get emailed when the embassy sends it out. And my fiance said he is going to try to "butter up" the guy who delivers mail, and hopefully if they e-mail me, we'll at least have an idea of time, as to when he may get it and then maybe stop by the post office as a last resort. And yes, hopefully it will all be there, in the past everything has always been opened and gone through.

I complain about the post office in Brooklyn, and yet in the big scheme of things, I guess we got it easy and should not be complaining!
