She might be able to get a non-certified copy faxed to her by Friday, and she can fax that to you. Depends on where she was born and how busy the records office is.

Rio's got our petition now, and thanks to advice up-thread, we've emailed them with our NVC case# and names/DOB to try to get the interview scheduled a little early. :)

I have to update the I-134 with my '09 taxes, but I think we've got the rest of the forms done already, and L is going to order his birth certificate (and police certificates) about three weeks before the interview, so we should be able to use them for registering our marriage with the Brazilian consulate in August. He's calling the doctor to schedule the medical appointment after we have the interview date. In short: we are almost done! :dancing:

Carolina - I know you mentioned leaving today for your interview. Break a leg! :D

Thank you everyone for the help and support here! Things were very smooth! All documents were right, interview was just questions about us. Left the consulate on foot and walked all my way to the airport to see a bit of Rio!

Thank you for remembering it K and L :)

Hope you get your date this week and all is good very soon!

Thank you guys :)

I updated my timeline, the info that was on my signature is now there in the comments. Also placed a consulate review, with a few info on the hotel I picked.

We are so happy!! Now to get everything ready to go! Again, thank you all

They emailed us Friday saying we should get a date on Monday or Tuesday. Either way, it's one of the best birthday presents I could have, topped only by getting the visa approved! In any case, since I'm flying down for the interview, we've started looking at hotels near the consulate (reviews, estimated prices, blahblah), and I've been looking at things to do in Rio as we're going to have two fully free days.

In any case, Carolina, when are you moving -- do you plan on coming before the snow melts?

---

Those of you who've already moved, how did you bring your things? Did you restrict yourself to two suitcases, pay extra with the airline to check more items, or mail the rest?

I stayed at the "Aeroporto Othon Hotel", it's close from airport and consulate, 3 stars. Modest but good enough for me. They have a website to check more details, can't recall the adress, but google has it.

Best of luck on the interview!

About moving, as soon as I have the passport back in hands, I'll get the flight tickets. I'll limit myself on taking just the two suitcases, but I might pay the extra weight, not sure. I don't have much here in Brazil, since I live with my parents, so all I need to pack are clothes, shoes, a few CDs, books and the laptop goes on the hand luggage. Whatever doesn't fit on the suitcases this time, I'll have them come when my family goes visit, or when I come back to visit.

Really hope I go in time to see some snow again! :)

I don’t know if I can speak on behalf of the female population but my fiancée didn’t bring a lot. She came during winter season [NY] so we decided to travel light and to be properly equipped with clothing here.. Many females already living in the US [as she stated] only complained for under-garments [different, not a Brazil style?... ] but most of her own [summer clothing there] really will be use during our short summer here.. So, all depends where, seasons and what could be important, emotional/sentimental value and how much space you have in your place here in the USA [lol]

So happy to be finally back together!!

POE (Dallas Forth Worth) was super simple. Digitals, picture, go to a room, wait, get passport back, show at a desk. Done. And the officers were really nice to me, I felt welcome =)

Will add that to my timeline soon. Thank you all once again for all the help!

Welcome to the US, Carolina!

We have our date, and most of our paperwork has been completed. He's scheduling the medical soon and will be getting a massive amount of photos taken soon (there are about 12 between the K1 and AOS process!), and we have to get our travel plans fleshed out.
