Soooo I was checking everything, and I found a little error on the I-134. My fiance wrote "fiance" instead of "fiancee" to refer to me. And now there is no time to send another one signed and all... what should I do?? Is it ok to put a big different attention calling extra "e" there? Or should that grammar error be alright? :bonk:

They will see the grammatical error.. all the forms are very specific with the genders.. when you complete all the required forms will mark your correct gender.. No need to worry..

Oi pessoal!! I would like some advice pleeease...

Bira and I are waiting for the NOA2...I'm the American, He's the Brazilian. I'll be going back to Sao Paulo to visit him in a few weeks (for Carnaval/Valentines/annnd our Anniversary all in the same week!! whoohooo)!! Although I've read through this whole forum (so much GREAT info!), I'm wondering...what types of things should Bira be doing now to prepare for our next steps on the consulate side?

I know he'll need the Police Certs/Medical Appt/etc., but is that stuff we can be doing now without an NOA2? I figured you who have gone through it would best know :)

I just want to be as prepared as possible, especially since we'll be together in 3 short weeks I would like to do my homework ahead of time and prepare any forms we should do together, original signatures needed, etc. He doesn't speak English well enough yet to comprehend the forms so I like to do the paperwork as much as possible.

Any advice, or if there is a step by step guide somewhere else, direction is much appreciated! Brigadao!

When I visited L for the holidays, I brought him I-134 with my 2008 tax returns and a photocopy of my passport [required supplements to the I-134], as well as originals for our 'proof of having met / proof of relationship' (though we're adding to that portion of things). I don't know if I should have brought more, though. When I fly down to visit him / go to the interview, I'm bringing my 2009 taxes and some other things to add ti the 'proof of relationship' crapola.

Bira, good to hear you want to be prepared.. it is the best thing to have all the require documents in order and on time.. You want to dedicate your visit to him and less to legalities [paper work]..

You or your fiancé should start working on all the required forms DS 230, 156K, 156, 157, I134 etc, etc http://brasilia.usembassy.gov/index.php?ac...amp;itemmenu=58 [Please make sure you use the updated forms..] He should start looking into his vaccination records and visit the local clinics to update as necessary - is my understanding Brazil provides free vaccination.. After you have your appointment, then he should start getting the police records..

you have already submitted information with your original application, you should put together a new package for the OI to review including emails, correspondence via mail [if any], post cards, airfares, hotel receipts, pictures including family..

Oi pessoal!! I would like some advice pleeease...

The Police certificates have an expiration date, so I'd sat to wait until you have the interview date to take them. I took my "Secretaria de Segurança Pública" one in a day, Federal Police took 5 days.

For the medical exam, my doctor asked for the consulate case number, so I guess you need to wait until NVC receives your case and sends it to Rio (after NOA2).

The step by step guide we used is the one here on VJ, it is very complete and the example forms helped a lot.

...aaaaaand some last minute doubts! :bonk:

1) DS 230:

Fill just part I

My doubt here: ok, Fill part 1 and then sign that part. Then there is the part 2, and the first part of it is able to be filled on the computer (with my name, my fiance's name, his email, etc...), and the check boxes.. and just the end says "do not write below the following line".

So, should I just leave that part "below the following line" blank or the whole part 2 blank? How was it for you guys that went to the interview already?

2) Additional pages. I have an additional page for DS 230 and another for DS 157. Can I take them signed or do I need to sign there?

3) Other signatures:

Can I take DS-156 already signed?

Can I take the Sworn Statement (Statement of marriageable age applicant) already signed?

DS-157 does not have a signature space, so is it delivered just printed/filled?

4) Blank spaces: some of the forms, when filled on a computer, won't let me write "n/a" on numerical fields. So when I print, there is a blank space there. BACK when I did the tourist visa, the lady checking our documents in line highlited those and told us to handwrite "n/a" or "none" on those. How was it on the interview for you guys? Is the same asked? Should I take them already with the "n/a" and "none" handwritten there?

5) Co-sponsor: We are using a co sponsor for our case (his mother). Is her birth certificate and marriage certificate enough to prove she is an american citizen?

We also had doubts when so we took forms already signed and another set with no signatures. You will be called prior interview to make sure all your documents are in order and will be guided to sign or complete if necessary

4) Blank spaces: some of the forms, when filled on a computer, won't let me write "n/a" on numerical fields. So when I print, there is a blank space there. If you have any blank spaces mark them as necessary with blank ink

5) Co-sponsor: We are using a co sponsor for our case (his mother). Is her birth certificate and marriage certificate enough to prove she is an american citizen?

Provide copy of her passport as well

Thank you!

So you used the ones already completed on the blank spaces and signed?

She has no passport, though :(

The birth certificate is not on a very good condition to read, I need to ask something else and quick! (I will have it scanned of sent by fax).

Would her driver's license + birth certificate be enough? Or her ID?

Sorry took too long to eddit, but I'd like to add that, on my co sponsor's birth certificate, it is possible to read clearly her name, local of birth, date of birth, birth place of her mother, date of register, and that "I hereby certify that the above is true..." part is also possible to read. Only the middle, with her father's info is almost impossible to read.

Is your cosponsor an US Citizen? if so, you need a clear copy of the Birth Certificate. Remember, you want to make the IO's work less complicated to avoid any delays or possible referrals. Personally [my own opinion] if the BC is not clear, then you should get a new one. You can also present the Citizenship Certificate issued to the co-sponsor in the event is a Naturalize Citizen as proof. In this case, you wont need the BC but you should include it just in case

Guess I am stuck with that old BC then. She is a US citizen. I will call her tonight.
