That is a bit of a stretch considering this is 2009. Totally different era back then. Heck, using something from 30 years ago is a stretch. The United States is also not South America; as such, rather than wing it, civilized countries tend to do things in order and use rules.

The above graph clearly shows that Mexicans have taken it on themselves to jump the line as they see fit. That is not what equitable immigration is all about. Perhaps if someone of you actually lived in other first world countries, countries actually recognized for quality of life, you would soon find the many of your left wing yank views regarding immigration are not shared by others. What would they know anyway right? They're only ranked higher than the US for quality of life. Whereas, we have minorities. Beat that Europe and Australia.

Oh wait, 1/4 of Australian citizens were actually born overseas. I think the problem with Hispanics probably has something to do with me being Aussie, as Australia does not seem to be too kind to people from Northern South America. Aka not interested. Most people who migrate from there are generally the southern part of South America. Chile, Argentina etc.

Thank you for calling me a yank... I'm a huge yankee fan and a New Yorker born and raised :) I think the way that you said it, however, was rude and I don't appreciate you calling me left-wing, like I'm some sort of radical, my views are shared with many.

I believe my comparison is legitimate and valid, and the same comparison has been made by many, many others. I don't think it's a stretch, as many, many times history does repeat itself.

I disagree with your statement that Mexicans 'jump' the line as they see fit. There are many different factors involved, sides and viewpoints to this argument, I have plenty of literature and sources if you are interested in doing research on the topic. I myself, have had my fill of writing papers on it

I have many friends that come from other 'first world' countries (including Australia!!). I am well aware of the fact that you also have minorities! However, I don't like classifying countries by thier status in the world, it's just not my thing.

Well, it's been nice chatting with you but NCIS is on and Zeva is in danger!

So the rest of the developed world must be wrong or uncompassionate to heavily police illegal immigration. Interesting, considering their ranking in terms of the Human Development Index. What would they know anyway. If there is a state that knows how to take care of the poor it's NYC. renowned.

Factors? While Mexicans make up 1.7% of the world's population, 31.3% of immigrants are from Mexico. Looking at that file of yours, can you tell me which Visa they used to enter? since there is no unskilled labor visa class in the US.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I am starting to understand why NYC is such a dilapidated craphole. The money goes to paying for illegal aliens.

How do illegal aliens qualify for medicaid and food stamps when no legal alien can use these services. Is that logical to you? Clearly federal money is going to them.

NYC is not a state, it's a city. When was the last time that you visited? If you haven't, you should visit, it's a beautiful city.

Would you mind sending me the link with the stats about how NYC takes care of their poor? I haven't seen those yet and I would love to see where you drew your conclusion from :)

There was an article in the Times I remember reading that said that NY had actually lowered it's poverty rate, it was one of like 12 states that was able to do that.

And thanks for interrupting my show. Zeva's okay now though don't worry.

I used to live in a First World country (the USA), but that was years ago. All I can do now is lament on what was. As one that has lived through it, I would say that the USA is an example of what not to do. US immigration policy is a dismal failure. The inmates run the asylum.

Shut up racist! You are going to eat modern America and like it. Where citizens of one country and region get to dominate immigration.

PS What do you hate brown people?

US immigration policy is anarchy (and has been for the last 20 years). Just a short time ago illegal immigration surpassed legal immigration (under Bush). The current political establishment (under Obama) has thrown all immigration laws aside in favor of rewarding illegal immigration while doing absolutely nothing to reform US immigration policy. After 7 illegal alien amnesties in the last 23 years, the cornerstone of current immigration reform is still stuck on mass amnesty for illegal aliens and even more chain migration without any consideration to the negative impact on American citizens with unemployment topping 10%. I find that mind boggling. The refusal to implement E-Verify and to make even a token attempt to control immigration and make it work for the broad base of the American people has led me to the conclusion that the current political establishment formulates policy that best suits themselves rather that America as a whole. Immigration should be highly regulated and should work to prosper the broad base of the nation. Instead it is run for the benefit of the select few while screwing the broad base of the American public. That is why I consider modern US immigration policy to be an abysmal failure.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

You're entitled to your opinion :) However, I love NYC and totally disagree with you.

Illegal aliens in New York State are not eligible to receive medicaid or food stamps. I know this because I used to volunteer for a program called HealthPlus, which is a medicaid backed insurance program where you have to fill out all the regular social services paperwork in order to receive assistance. It was a mobile sign-up, so basically I would go town to town to hospitals and help people fill out their paperwork. We would check immigration documents and without a birth certificate, US passport or a Green Card, etc. they were not able to participate. Anything that looked fraudulent we would report and it would be investigated with the town it was issued in (birth certificate) etc.

I remember having to turn many people away due to their immigration status. Some were even denied after providing fraudulent documentation.

So that was basically an assumption, and I'm sorry but you should stand corrected.

Refer to graph above.

Of course it has lowed its poverty rate. I go to work, work 40+ hours, pay federal taxes and then illegal aliens get to live off me.

Since you have no issue with illegal aliens, maybe you can explain to me exactly how more poor unskilled illegal aliens are a good thing for America's poor? Particularly those living around NYC.

Are you deliberately ignoring the section that says NYC? It's actually the worst in the country. As I stated yesterday, I have no problem assisting Americans in need. Would not even have a problem with an increase tax to assist them. However, I refuse to give a single dollar to illegal aliens. Ever noticed which demographic has the highest number of teenage pregnancies? Who do you think is going to pay for them and then have to deal with the results of single family homes? Were the daughter is whoring around yet granny is left to take care of the kid. Yes, uncle boo here.

“It’s absolutely not racial profiling,” said director of custody Jerry Sheridan Monday.

Oh no, of course it isn't

“I think you can tell people that are not from this country,” he said.

Presumably they'll be looking for short, mustached men in sombreros and ponchos who say "Gringo" a lot.

Pikester, you are slipping. You got baited by a provocative subject line!

I didn't say I had no issue with illegal aliens. It's an argument with many sides, many legitimate. In this economy, jobs that are given to illegal immigrants would be more readily available to citizens if illegal immigration was less of a problem. However, it's our government's job to control illegal immigration, not mine.

I, however refuse to sink to a level where I stigmatize others based upon their country of origin or their legal status in any country. There's something called common decency that luckily my mother taught me.

I also refuse to insult other people's countries, states, or cities. What can I say, I'm a considerate person. Just because I don't agree with you I'm not going to insult Australia.

Of course it's a joke. Not one other civilized country endorses the United States unofficial turn a blind eye stance on illegal immigration. You have people like those here who actually cheer on uneducated unskilled aliens from one or two nations to enter at will. Like it's a good thing for the country. Apparently the ideal method of assisting Americas 50+ million in poverty (figure prior to 2007 crisis) is to bring in even more unskilled, uneducated people.

Since you have no issue with illegal aliens, maybe you can explain to me exactly how more poor unskilled illegal aliens are a good thing for America's poor? Particularly those living around NYC.

Regardless of popular belief, the government is not some rogue private entity that does as they please. We the people make the government. Clearly in places like NYC, the local constituents have chosen to turn a blind eye and allow illegal aliens to function as regular citizens. On top of that, they are using federal money to pay for many of these services.

I don't just blindly look at charts but yes I did read it. I also was able to see that you obtained this from the CIS which is an openly anti-immigration organization, highly controversial and conservative-based. You always need to look at your data, and where your data comes from to draw appropriate conclusion.

Thanks though for the info anywhoo.

I am just interested in your point of view. I'm not here to insult you.

Whoa, I've been fooled! It just seemed that way. Sometimes choosing your wording wisely is the key in not offending/insulting someone.
