What game would that be?

Oh are we playing all coy and innocent now?

Fox is just a Fair and Balanced news outlet, no political axe to grind, just straight up journalism.

Riiiiiiiiight.. And Peyton Manning just likes to toss the football around for a friendly game of catch, not a competitive bone in his body.

I think you're missing the point. Fox is a news station and thus is at least somewhat concerned with ratings. This is the game Fox wants to play because all publicity is good publicity. They want to be taking on the president.

The reason that the president is in a shaky position is because all news stations run both "news" and opinion shows. Are you going to not allow every station that has an opinion show? I guess that means no more press conferences.

And further even the newscasts (on every channel) are all biased. Even if everything they report is factually accurate, there is still a bias because they have to chose what to report and what not to report. For instance, there are plenty of experts that will say the economy is recovering and plenty that will say we are in for another couple years and a double dip. Who do you put on? That represents a bias.

I do think Fox is very dishonest. Take their coverage of health reform for instance - they take extreme cases from the news in the UK, France or Germany and try to use them as counterpoints to public health insurance.

Never mind that the systems are very very different in those countries, or indeed that they're only showing a very narrow snapshot which by itself cannot be a fair judge.

I also find it amazing that Fox spends so much time slagging off other news sources. Perhaps its the nature of the news here to be partisan, but when you are so blatantly biased "fair and balanced" can only be what it is - nothing more than a trademarked slogan.

Funny, too, how our friends on the right have all forgotten about the war the Bush White House led against MSNBC and how supportive FOX was of the Bush administration's decision to do so. Dishonest hacks they are.

Look at who Ovomit has surrounded himself by and then you can understand why nothing is changing for the better and why nothing is getting any better. Nothing but a bunch of wingnut liberal east coast elitist or feel self important intellectuals running the show now at white house and it shows. Ovomit will be a one term man.

Can this president be any more juvenile and petty? Sheesh! What an embarassment to have this guy as prez......

On the one hand you have liberal stations in love with Obama, getting shivers up their legs, and calling Him God.

On the other hand you have little 'ole Faux News, the only station that is reporting BOTH SIDES.

Were it not for Faux News we would have never known about Rev. Wright (and when I saw that for the first time I thought OMG Obama is done, Clinton is gonna get the rest of the votes, who would vote for a guy that went to that kind of church---I was wrong)...ACORN, the czars, etc. The other stations won't report the OTHER SIDE whereas Faux reports BOTH SIDES.

Got to go, I can't believe Amazon is up so much pre-market (from $93 close yesterday to over $110 now which is an all-time record high).

Well I don't really agree with what the WH is doing here, but at the same time it can hardly be claimed that the US media (in general) provides the sort of independent oversight of government that it is supposed to. If indeed major outlets are little more than extensions of the party political system - adopting this sort of approach is somewhat understandable.

Of course, its hardly good for democracy.

...the only station that is reporting BOTH SIDES.

Are there only 2 sides?

Like most broadcast organizations, cable news is a business. First and foremost, their objective is to make money. Love 'em or hate 'em, Fox has hit upon a formula that works for them because their ratings are consistently nearly 3 times higher than their nearest competitor, CNN. In fact, on average, Fox viewers represent nearly half of all people watching any of the 5 major cable news networks. To cut off that many viewers because you don't like the spin their commentators are going to put on the coverage is just stupid.

You're right about the first part. I disagree with your last sentence. They produce what used to be referred to as yellow journalism, and while all corporate news media dabbles in yellow journalism, Rupert Murdoch has built his empire on unabashedly promoting yellow journalism. I liken it to the popularity of the Jonas Brothers or Walmart - two icons of American popularity which obviously do not reflect quality.

Good for the White House to finally call a spade a spade. Rupert Murdoch can, in those famous words from ####### Cheney, "go ** himself."

If this is a principled stand why not cut out msnbc too. It comes down too the fact Obama doesnt like how he is portrayed by commentators at fox news. It not a stand against yellow journalism.
