There are more half-azz apps then there are good ones. That is why open source hasn't really got massive support. I have run the apps in UBUNTU and ended up turning back to Visual Studio. Same thing with OpenOffice, the slides for the presentation doesn't come out like I want to. Heck, even with some sort of open source MATLAB simular applications. There are so many written apps that could have been better developed if everyone just focused on one single entity such as Firefox.

Everyone wants to start their own open source project. If they spend the ounce into thinking of working on one project, there wouldn't be mistakes in programming that have already been solved. Why invent the wheel when it's already invented? I noticed many of the open software have the same bugs as the other software that have been made to do the exact same thing but implemented differently. If those freaking groups work on the same project instead of working on them seperately, they wouldn't have to spend so many times working on fixing the problem that's already been fixed.

Firefox 3.7+ have absorbed so many of Chrome stuff that Google shared.

If open source is better controlled or managed, it would've been great like Firefox.

Yes I do know exactly with what I am talking about.

The OpenSource projects at sourceforge.net is mostly half azz. Mostly doesn't mean all as I'm using PDFCreator without any problems.

if you think open source is half assed look at the browser market.

Open source browsers:

Firefox

Safari (Webkit based)

Chrome (Webkit based)

Closed source browser

IE

Opera

Firefox, Safari and Chrome are the best browsers currently on the market. All of them are based on open source. Opera is generally pretty good but has low adoption rates and the closed source king, IE, sucks really bad.

If you look at other open-source projects you will find that they often hold up very well against their closed source competitors.

Facebook as mysql scaled to 50,000 database servers. They didn't need to buy oracle to do it.

Open source languages such as PHP, Python and Ruby power some of the largest sites on the internet. Take that ASP.net.

It is super easy to dual boot. Every system I own minus my macs of course dual boot. Though with wine and a virtual machine of your choice. There is little need to reboot into windows itself. Browsing the Internet on a windows machine is just not worth the risks. That goes for Windows 7 sadly out of the box....
