america stands for equal opportunity - not equal results.

You lie! Someone in the ghetto has no chance of competing with a student in my county. Yes the county with highest grossing household income in the entire United States of America.

Equal opportunity is what countries like Australia, Norway, Canada, Sweden etc provide, not America. Where a kid's grades determine their entrance into college rather than their parents wealth.

someone from the ghetto just earned a spot on the scotus!!! why? because she was willing to work for it!!!

and you expect us to believe that every aussie is a straight-A student? no doubt there are some delinquents that fell through the cracks. your posts are a CLEAR example of that. GEEZ - be a man!!! own up to your decisions!! i don't need a mommy-state to wipe my nose every time i make a booboo. you know what i want? i want my tax money that went to banks that i don't use, companies that build cars that i don't drive, and insurers that i don't do business with.

Is that because the wealthy dickheads who run this country have stacked the decks against the ghetto child, or is that because the ghetto is full of minorities and we all know what they're like?

Socioeconomic status unfortunately more times than not, determines what opportunities you get. Coming from someone who volunteered to help out and also observe classes in NY's high needs schools, these kids aren't given half a chance. It's so sad. They're lucky to have some good teachers who care about them, but more often than not have to eventually leave because of the low salaries they are paid to work in these areas.

It's a total shame because these kids are so bright. But I guess limited money in America = limited opportunities.

George Washington University: (Tuition only) $41,610 - per year = $166,460

George Town University: Total expense per year - $55,130 * 4 = $220,050

Australian National University: ** Also in their capital and ranked higher than both of those schools, in every international ranking. Ranked about 13th in the world.

Total Tuition Cost for the Full Degree:

Band 3 (accounting, administration, economics, commerce, law, dentistry, medicine, veterinary science): $32,246 USD

Band 2 ( computing, built environment, health, engineering, surveying, agriculture): $27,241 USD

Band 1 (humanities, behavioural science, social studies, foreign languages, visual and performing arts, education and nursing): $19,116 USD

National Priority NP (mathematics, statistics, science) Please note that NP is also represented as Band 5 and Band 6 in some official ANU publications: $15,296 USD

*** Also no such rubbish as in state or out of state.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

So what are you saying, the urban minorities in America aren't inherently stupid?

What's hilarious is these voices calling for 'doing things for themselves' as if somehow everyone is an isolated island and does not rely on a gamut of social networks. Yay for those who can do everything.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

You spelled Brett Favre's name incorrectly for a good 3 weeks. That precludes you from being best equipped to know how to spend your own money.

Now to correct the misleading statement you made, I misspelled it once and didnt notice it for 3 weeks until you were oh so kind enough to bring it to my attention and how you kept bringing it up again and again so that I wouldn't forget was nice of you........you are quite the saint.

That was a cheap shot Rob(it is Rob right?). You don't really believe that nonsense do you?

Indian immigrants in Jersey do very well, even when they arrive with little formal education and a weak (at best) grasp of the English language. The reason they do well is not just because they pull themselves up by the bootstraps and work hard (they do that) but also because they have available to them an excellent ethnic social network for access to cheap housing, no-interest "loans" and advice/counsel. Societies really do matter.

Where does the aboriginal population fit into that picture?

I think he's saying that there's no underclass in Australia.

He's wrong.

So why are you ridiculing me then for suggesting that while there is a problem in the American system, minorities also need to pull up their bootstraps? Just like Indians, Asians, Italians and Greeks have. I don't know of one Greek who came here after a 20 day ship voyage with more than $10 to their name. At a time when minimum wage was a few dollars a week.

I also did not mention that those students in the poorest county Prince Georges, MD have $13k per student spent on them, rather than the $10K in my county.

I think he's saying that there's no underclass in Australia.

He's wrong.

Once again "you think" wrong.

This shows that going to a decent college is unaffordable for many most here.

To be followed by assertions that Australian STDs consist only of the "good" bacteria.
