Or Cuba? :P

If you lived in Cuba and there was I problem and the U.S. gets you out you should pay. There is a dictator ruling Cuba that does what ever he wants, the economy is unstable . Why we you put your family and your self in harms way and then want the U.S. government to have to pay for that, your stupidity.

Peter Miami

Do foreign refugees fleeing a warzone (and possible genocide) have to pay an asylum fee I wonder? If not - then I'm not sure how justifiable this is, seeing as these are our own citizens to begin with

Well at least you're consistent.

the

Exactly, and your point is wrong. :P

These Americans weren't travelling or living there recklessly. This isn't something like a stupid mountain climber not expecting snow on Mt. McKinley, needing a helicopter rescue, then complaining about having to pay $20,000 to save his sorry ###. Or some idiot walking into Iraq and then deciding he doesn't like car bombings anymore. Our fellow citizens are in a war zone through no fault of their own and it is our government's responsibility to get them out of harm's way, period.

There, now you can be flippant with me. :)

By the way, what the heck are 25,000 American's doing in Lebanon? Is it common to have that many US citizens in any given foreign country, or is it just Lebanon? Is the food that good over there?

Yes it is and if they can not pay at the time, they are given time to pay the government later. Why I do not want to pay for it do you? Someone has to pay for it. If you want to live in a dangerous place and then there is a problem the U.S. government is suppose to pay for it? Come on now?

Peter Miami

Did we charge the people in New Orleans to evacuate them? If I am trapped under a bridge after the Earthquake hit's my home in California, are they going to charge me to get me out? Are you telling me the only thing I pay taxes for are things I don't like? I mean, I pay police so they can write me speeding tickets.

No, but we should have. Everyone in NO, LA was told to get out. If you didn't why do I have to pick up the bill. In Arizona we have laws that if you are rescued because you were stupid you get the bill. Flash floods, moutain rescues, etc.

No, but Lebanon is not a US state.

Is Lebanon one of the countries that has a State Department travel warning issued for it? If so then:

- If someone is there on US government orders, the US government should pay to evacuate them.

- If someone is there because of a job, then the company that sent them there should pay.

- If someone is there doing humanitarian work of any sort, the US government should pay. Although I suppose that might bring up church/state issues if the humanitarian work is religious in nature.

- If someone is there just to say they've been to Lebanon, or for any other tourist-y reason, then that person darn well should have known what he was potentially getting into and should pay.

If Lebanon was *not* on the State Department's List of No-Nos as of, say, a month ago, then I don't have a problem with US tax dollars paying to evacuate Americans.
