Waste of my time. I rather spend time improving ways of life than fix the car. I could've rebuild the engine, but, that takes time. You need to take apart the engine. Seperate the compartment. Check the pistons. Check the cylinders. Clean out any oil stains. Those engine blocks are a pain. And, when they get that old, you'll probably need to rebuild them every 20k miles or so. It's a waste of time. Might as well buy a new one.

Congratulations Aidan! Did you keep your license plate so I know it's you when you're driving around town? lol

Oh! How much do you charge for a computer tech home visit? :secret:

If I know you, I'd charge 80% less than Geek Squad.

Seriously Niels? Do you really feel qualified to rebuild a motor? My father was an Aeronautical Engineer for NASA and I needed to assist in an oil change....

Theory and reality are two very different worlds.....

I've done it. It's tough to take apart the engine. You'd need more than one person to do it. It's heavy.

Anyway, my dad taught me alot when I had my first car.

Fair enough. Just wanted to conduct a reality check. Cheers!

Nice car! Congrats on finessing the deal.

If I'm reading this right the manual says no trailer.. outside the US I've read yes these cars can pull a load behind them nothing massive but they can pull a load. I've heard it's a liability thing from Nissan in the US so they say no pulling a load. Back over the water you can easily have your Versa or Tiida hooked up and ready to pull a small trailer.

I'm the USC.

There is nothing that I can't do with a car, body work, overhaul and AT or an engine, pull the body off the frame, if it has a frame. But what is stopping me today is this stupid flashram that contains the operating system so the darn thing will run. Do have a laptop, four of them, but a scanner, that piece of ####### that only reads out the codes, the codes are stored in both the PCM and BCM, costs an astounding $5,300.00. Then the firmware for reloading, this esoteric software was not even available as short as three years ago until a California Supreme court forced the automotive manufacturers to make it available, mostly for independent shops. But it sure isn't available for free, costs, $2,000.00 per year for a subscription, even if you only want to do one download. That adds up to $7,300.00 just to get started.

It's not as bad as it was back in 1996 when the EPA pushed OBD II supposingly to standardized the DCL connector, but each automotive company deviated far from this standard, can't even change a defective emission control part without reprogramming the PCM as each component has a unique ID number. Damn car won't even start unless all the ID numbers correspond with what is stored in the PCM, that is the powertrain computer module that has full control over all the engine functions, like ignition and injector timing. Without the firmware, or corrupted firmware, you are dead, just like you are with your home computer if you not have any OS or programs stored into it. And the storing is incredibly weak, only takes one stinking volt on the reprogramming pin to completely delete your existing firmware, and to enable it to store the new program. A one volt glitch on that pin can cause you to stall in the middle of nowhere, but these are government rules.

Also by making it easy to reflash the RAM, the programmers tend to get sloppy.

Since 2002, they have been installing spy boxes in vehicles, keeps track of how fast you are driving, whether you applied brakes, your steering, and if you were wearing your safety belt. Suppose to be for quality control purposes and vehicle improvement, but now insurance companies are getting a hold of that, that can be used against you in the event of an accident or what you call an accident. Just don't like my own car spying on me, and recently, also keeping track of where you are going with satellite links. Can do without a new car.

Thanks for all the messages!..

After all of this, everything I went thought to get that perfect deal seems the dealer got me in the end, sneaky wee b@astard. He's good at his job, very good. I didn't know about "spot delivery" I left the dealership last night being told over and over again I was approved for 6.77% today I get a call and I'm told no actually I'm denied! How can I go from approved to denied! I've no financing for the vehicle my other car is dead and I'm now in half a mind to use this car to run the sales man over with it. I'll have to talk to my bank tomorrow in the hope I can get a deal outta them they originally wanted 25% down well that died when my other car died.

Murhpy's Law always hits me twice and always quite hard. Whats the worst can happen? I end up riding a moped to work lmao! That or a used buy here pay here for ever!

Your first post gave the impression, you already took delivery of your new car, guess you just made an offer to buy pending a credit check. I always paid cash for a car so never shared your experience except when I was in the military and turned down cold for a 400 buck loan. It was disheartening, so do no the feeling. So since, have been making car payments to my savings account and have cash to pay, but the time it takes to save that money, makes a guy wonder if he wants to waste it on a new car. Darn things depreciate so fast, and that bumper to bumper warranty goes by like a flash. Then you may not only have car payments to make, but repair bills on top of that. May have worked out for the best.

This is odd...I thought you had the car in your possession...Why did you leave the dealership without it?

I worked my deal, got favorable Honda financing and was out the door with the keys in about 3 hours.

What happened?

What the hell?! That sucks! I'm sorry. :(

Keep us posted on what the bank says. Would they approve you for a lesser amount? Say, if you wanted a late-model used car for 10K or something?

By the way, what was wrong w/ the Escort?
