I missed the boat today

I must have eaten summat bad, because...well let's just say I was puking and stuff all night long. So Tuesday mornings, my company has the weekly sales meetings, then we caravan all the new listings that week...it starts at 8:30 and ends like at 12ish.

Because I was ill, I thought to myself 'Hrmm, being in somone else's car with 3 of my colleagues...what if I feel sick again?' let alone the fact that I was dead tired from a restless sleep & monster hours lately. Oh, also....I've told you all about floor calls...how each agent gets a few shifts a mo to answer phones, and all those leads during that time are yours. Well we also have 'calls of excellence' where corporate calls up & pretends to be a customer & they evaluate your performance. They tell you at the end of the convo that it was a call of excellence, and to expect a report in the mail.

So I got a call like 2 weeks ago. I was actually pizzed cos it sounded like a really good lead. Oh...and I told the guy right after my shift that I had an Excellence call. Just to give him a heads up. And lo and behold, they called him too. Anyways, I ask my boss 'when will the eval be here?' and she's like 'in a few days'. Ok, so HE got his eval within a few days. Me? I'm ####### retentive, and I have been anxious for this damn thing ever since. Checking every day...checking my mail, asking my boss, etc. Nada. Zilch Zip Nothing.

Okok, so back to the meeting (you can see where this is headed, yeah?) I didn't go. AND MY BOSS COMMENDED ME PUBLICLY AT THE MEETING FOR AN EXCELLENT JOB! I got a perfect report, and the evaluator even wrote comments on how 'GREAT' I am and how she wishes she could have taped the convo for reference (they do tape them, but her machine broke, lol) It was so good, my boss read it out to everyone at the meeting & then added 'of course, she never comes to meetings' ...not true anymore, but whatever...(I also missed the meeting where my boss publicly announced my engagement, lol)

I dunno, I'm pizzed that I shouldn't have been so soft and I should have gone to the meeting. I don't want to ask anyone in particular as far as 'what did she say exactly?' cos that would make me look stupid. <y boss and I have this odd relationship depending on her mood...she's very fair and stuff, but sometimes she's too busy to talk to you & she can come off a bit curt. So it would have been nice to ride a wave of praise, lol. But I went into work to check something else, and my boss was all glowing and happy with me & everyone was like 'wow, she really gave you some serious praise today'

And I missed it

Oh, some builders came in and gave away some phat goody bags too...catered breakkie and then had drawings for prizes like golf bags and gucci business card holders. Usually the meetings are an hour or so of just stuff....but man did I miss the boat today!

Shame on you!

But no really, I miss meetings for that reason all the time. As far as I'm concerned, it's perfectly valid. The only praise that counts is the praise that shows in the form of more digits on a check anyway.

Yeah...I am in that paycheck boat. I have been getting praise for 3 years. No raise. Now I could care less about the praise. Just show me the MONEY!!!!
