Heaven forbid that the Byzantine smoke and mirror financial sector should be allowed to implode on itself. After all...it seems that it is the only thing left to keep up the appearance that the US economy remains vibrant.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

The figure for Florida would be at least 45,000 higher than what it is seeing that in education alone, the stimulus package has saved that many jobs. The number is probably smaller but there are several thousand of law enforcement jobs that were saved with stimulus funds as well. As for the private sector jobs created in "shovel ready" projects, we'll have to give it time until the state is ready to get it all going. If you want to blame anyone for the delay, Danno, blame the GOP who happens to run the state in both the executive and legislative branch.

In transportation, which the Obama Administration touted as delivering the most jobs, Florida's Legislature also took the slow road. Florida chose to use its funding for infrastructure projects such as building bridges and widening roads, infrastructure projects that take months to coordinate. Most projects won't start until 2010.

Winstead said that larger construction projects will definitely create more sustained job creation, but ``they're complex, so getting them going takes time.''

Are you saying the Obamer "misjudged" the expediency of getting these projects up and running?

(Fla is not the only place my friend).

If Obama cannot foresee a simple thing like this.... in a system he has worked and dealt with for years, thats a scary thought as he makes foreign policy decisions.

You guys just never fail to amuse me. If action is taken quickly, you bemoan the haste and call for more time to debate and consider. If there is debate and consideration, you bemoan the delays this causes. Just come out and say it: You will disagree with either way the administration approaches any issue. You will oppose for the sake of being in opposition. That's your right but don't expect anyone to take your complaints seriously.

The purpose of an economic stimulus isn't primarily to "save" jobs but have enough economic activity that the economy doesn't nosedive and it needs to happen fairly quickly. Ideally, the stimulus creates a multiplier effect where some spending by the government is matched by more spending by the private sector. This hasn't happened in the private sector and because Obama and company are sucking up available capital it's unlikely the private sector can expand or require new workers.

The economic stimulus has been a failure at real job creation and some economists admit unemployment will remain high for months or years.

Well, I say give it time. After more than a year of closed doors, we're actually hiring again adding roughly 10% to our department. That's encouraging, in my opinion.
