What a jerk.

:) Standard though, he was a younger guy. Whenever we see a younger guard I just gear up to get ####### as they're all on power trips lol.

Same here. The first time I went through YVR, there was a young guard who went bat$hit insane after I told him I was there to "visit my fiancee." Judging by his actions, I was as dangerous as cocaine dealer carrying an AK-47.

I've also had problems with female border guards. I don't know what it is, but it seems that 9 times out 10, a female guard will be more trouble than a male guard. Maybe that sounds sexist, but that's my experience.

I've had this discussion with my husband's coworkers as they deal with RCMP a lot. The majority of the female cops have a chip on their shoulder and are complete b1tches for no reason. I think they feel as though they have to come across as a tough b1tch in order to get the respect a cop deserves. Who knows.

To be fair, that's not a Canadian-only phenomenon. I've experienced that in the U.S. many times.

No, of course it happens in the US, but in the context of the conversation, it was about RCMP.

I get nervous at the border going both ways. Some of the border guards are just awful :(

I get nervous too or at least I used to before I became a citizen. I haven't ever had any bad ones and only once got questioned throughly why I was comming across to Detroit at 10pm on the tunnel bus alone for (because I was bored and just wanted to wander around downtown).

I used to cross every weekend on the tunnel bus in Windsor for years, and smuggled in ciggarettes to Canada a lot (basically for me at the time and to give to friends). After that I didn't go over as much. Plus when I moved to the US on the TN status, that's when I started to always get nervous because I was always thinking I could somehow be denied because I was nervous which made me more nervous. I think if I looked nervous they'd think I was hiding something, so that made me nervous and ugh. I never had any issues at all though in the 7 years I was on that, but always dreaded going through the borders.

Now I don't care as I'm a citizen. I'm more worried about the Canadian ones because I use my US passport to enter the country and I'm just waiting for one to grill me why I'm not using the Canadian one. Comming back to the US now, I no longer worry at all and have a sence of what can you do to me? Deny a citizen? So I'm much more secure.

Plus hearing stories from people of their bad experiences always played out in my mind while I'm sitting there waiting in the line to be checked out...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

What I don't like about crossing over into the US , at least the guards that I have encountered, is that they are talking to you like you are lying, hiding something, going there to do something illegal, etc.

Asking a question then a few questions later asking the same question again to see if you give the same answer. I know they do that to actually catch a person who is lying but it just takes forever and it makes me soo nervous.

On top of that they are just rude and mean!

I have never been faced with a poor Canadian Customs officer. Suppose I am lucky. Every single one I have had between casual travel, immigration, car imports and more have all been helpful, kind and courteous.
