Buchanan Picks Fist Fight With the Tide

On Tuesday Pat Buchanan reminded everyone that he's not just a cuddly mascot crossing party lines to appear on a liberal news network, the Juan Williams of MSNBC.

In an essay for World Net Daily, the one news source with thepower and credibility of whole world times the Internet multiplied by every single day right there in its name, Buchanan bemoaned the state of "Traditional Americans." Of course, by "traditional" he means "white." He's not even subtle about it. That's Pat. It's odd that he'd use that term for his "I'm not racist but..." code language since white isn't really a traditional American skin color at all. Traditionally Americans were red. That was before we showed up with rifles and pushed them off their lands. Good times. Good times.

He has a point, though. Times are tough for white people. Joblessness is rampant, and given all that's going on in the financial industry they have a hard time getting loans for houses or cars. Meanwhile, all the wealthier people are moving out of traditionally white suburban neighborhoods in favor of fancier digs downtown. In a lot of ways, folks like Pat Buchannan are starting to feel what black people must have experienced like all along. That really stings.

White people can remember a golden age (a period sometimes referred to as "human history") when they ran everything. They still do, of course, but they control slightly less than they did before and the stuff they still do control comes with the caveat that they pretend to feel guilty about the whole thing. Pretending is exhausting work.

Things have changed so much. Folks are expected to be polite and act like adults now. It's fun to call it "political correctness" and act like it's too much to ask of someone because, in truth, it usually is. You have to watch what you do and what you say. For example, you can't drag people to death or hang them for whistling at white ladies anymore. Well, technically you can and people still do it, but that sort of thing is frowned upon now. No wonder Pat is so upset.

Pat Buchanan and his readers are engaged in a ten round bare-knuckled bout with the tide, not because it will accomplish anything but because it's fun. Punch punch punch! Wahoo!

Buchanan is adamant about one thing: opposition to the President's agenda isn't about race. He clinches this argument by claiming that others are saying that it's "entirely to do with race." And, of course, an average person would conclude that it can't be entirely due to racial issues- so Pat Buchanan, sage from the Nixon administration and mighty orator who rocked the house in his 1992 speech to the Reichstag, must be right. It's the kind of thing that plays really well on cable news. It's the way twelve-year-olds talk about politics, which is convenient since the average American voter has a twelve-year-old's understanding of the American political process.

Buchanan knows all too well that you don't openly say that you dislike people of another race or that you're fearful of another ethnic group gaining power in a zero-sum-game for political power. That won't do. You say you're defending the Constitution like you would protect a member of your family. And we all know that the Constitution, like your grandmother, has never been completely comfortable around black people.

So, what is Pat's underlying point to all of this? What is his italicized call to action? Buy his book. That'll show the opposition. That'll be sure to shake the dozens of imaginary Obama cabals to their fictional knees.

In the book, Buchanan urges readers to restore America's values by becoming "oath keepers," which has something to do with dropping out of the army. Apparently, this is accomplished by taking an oath to defend your country then not showing up for work because you don't like the guy running it. This is, of course, only an educated guess. Hawkish Buchanan has never actually served in the military. But that isn't to say that he doesn't have credibility here. Some of our best and most awesome unnecessary wars have come from guys who have never actually fought in one.

According to Buchanan, being an oath keeper often means not keeping oaths if you happen to disagree with them politically at some later time. Thinking about it that way, his argument really makes you look at your marriage vows in a whole new way.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Oh jeez, this Race baiting is too much but it's fun too.

I don't think I have ever seen an article full of so much B.S. about a writer... without one quote (even a misquote).

Ahh, AJ, the Race chip on your shoulder is even bigger than mine :help:

We read endless articles and conversations about Black voting block, hispanic voting blocks, Jewish voting demographics and even women voters but as soon as Ole Pat speaks of the largest voting block in the country.... it is "coded Klan-talk".

Pat is at war (if you will) with segments in this country but it has nothing to do with color and every thing to do with Liberalism and as he stuck it to that crowd again in this Column .... what else could they do but play the race-card to deflect.

Since you bring up the piece, lets at least read it, shall we?

Traditional Americans are losing their nation

In the brief age of Obama, we have had "truthers," "birthers," tea party activists and town-hall dissenters.

Comes now, the "Oath Keepers." And who might they be?

Writes Alan Maimon in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oath Keepers, depending on where one stands, are "either strident defenders of liberty or dangerous peddlers of paranoia."

Formed in March, they are ex-military and police who repledge themselves to defend the Constitution, even if it means disobeying orders. If the U.S. government ordered law enforcement agencies to violate Second Amendment rights by disarming the people, Oath Keepers will not obey.

"The whole point of Oath Keepers is to stop a dictatorship from ever happening here," says founding father Stewart Rhodes, an ex-Army paratrooper and Yale-trained lawyer. "My focus is on the guys with the guns, because they can't do it without them.

"We say if the American people decide it's time for a revolution, we'll fight with you."

Prediction: Brother Rhodes is headed for cable stardom.

And if the Pelosi-Reid progressives went postal over town-hall protesters, calling them "un-American," "Nazis" and "evil-mongers," one can imagine what they will do with the Oath Keepers.

It's not too late to rescue the nation! Read how in "Save America Now! The New Revolution to Save Freedom and Liberty"

As with Jimmy Carter's long-range psychoanalysis of Joe Wilson, the reflexive reaction of the mainstream media will likely be that these are militia types, driven to irrationality because America has a black president.

Yet, the establishment's reaction seems more problematic for the republic than anything the Oath Keepers are up to. For our political and media elite seem to have lost touch with the nation and to be wedded to a vision of America divorced from reality.

Progressives are the folks who, in the 1960s, could easily understand that urban riots that took scores of lives and destroyed billions in property were an inevitable reaction to racism, poverty and despair. They could empathize with the rage of campus radicals who burned down the ROTC building and bombed the Pentagon.

The "dirty, immoral war in Vietnam" explains why the "finest generation we have ever produced" is behaving like this, they said. We must deal with the "root causes" of social disorder.

Yet, they cannot comprehend what would motivate Middle America to distrust its government, for it surely does, as Ron Brownstein reports in the National Journal:

"Whites are not only more anxious, but also more alienated. Big majorities of whites say the past year's turmoil has diminished their confidence in government, corporations and the financial industry. ... Asked which institution they trust most to make economic decisions in their interest, a plurality of whites older than 30 pick 'none' – a grim statement."

Is all this due to Obama's race?

Even Obama laughs at that. As he told David Letterman, I was already black by the time I was elected. And he not only got a higher share of the white vote than Kerry or Gore, a third of white voters, who said in August 2008 that race was an important consideration in voting, said they were going to vote for Obama.

With black voters going 24 to 1 for Obama, he almost surely won more votes than he lost because of his race.

Moreover, the alienation and radicalization of white America began long before Obama arrived. He acknowledged as much when he explained Middle Pennsylvanians to puzzled progressives in that closed-door meeting in San Francisco.

Referring to the white working-class voters in the industrial towns decimated by job losses, Obama said: "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Yet, we had seen these folks before. They were Perotistas in 1992, opposed NAFTA in 1993 and blocked the Bush-Kennedy McCain amnesty in 2007.

In their lifetimes, they have seen their Christian faith purged from schools their taxes paid for, and mocked in movies and on TV. They have seen their factories shuttered in the thousands and their jobs outsourced in the millions to Mexico and China. They have seen trillions of tax dollars go for Great Society programs, but have seen no Great Society, only rising crime, illegitimacy, drug use and dropout rates.

They watch on cable TV as illegal aliens walk into their country, are rewarded with free educations and health care and take jobs at lower pay than American families can live on – then carry Mexican flags in American cities and demand U.S. citizenship.

They see Wall Street banks bailed out as they sweat their next paycheck, then read that bank profits are soaring, and the big bonuses for the brilliant bankers are back. Neither they nor their kids ever benefited from affirmative action, unlike Barack and Michelle Obama.

They see a government in Washington that cannot balance its books, win our wars or protect our borders. The government shovels out trillions to Fortune 500 corporations and banks to rescue the country from a crisis created by the government and Fortune 500 corporations and banks.

America was once their country. They sense they are losing it. And they are right.

-------------

I just went to oathkeepers.org, as I have heard of them but as I read a little about them, I see they are mis-represented in your article as well.

Danno, A.J does not have a race chip on his shoulder, or anywhere else for that matter. That you think that he does really tells me how far down the road of denial you have traveled. ;)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Mika Brzezinski: Pat Buchanan ‘Says What We’re All Thinking’

Mika Brzezinski, the co-host of “Morning Joe” with Joe Scarborough, plays the liberal to the former congressman’s conservative. That makes her endorsement of Pat Buchanan as the show’s “best guest” sort of surprising.

Mika is as much fluff to that show as Joe is. The overt Obama worship on Morning Joe is sickening. Pat must be getting hard-up to keep showing up, sorta like Kenny on South Park, that will anything for a dollar.
