A senior manager who's worked here for decades, who's daddy worked here all his life... recently cracked a joke at a lady who works in our cafeteria saying she looks just like Sonia Sotomayor. Saying she could be SCOTUS justice too, looking like that.

Water cooler rumor is that it's gone all the way to HR.

ONLY IN THE USA.

Oh no not you too, we get enough of that from MC.

Anywhere else, that would be taken as a compliment. Definitely laughed off with a I wish or something. Then again the lady probably didn't even speak English.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Smarmy gits rarely do intend any harm, apperntly, but Sotomayor is not in the public eye because she is a renowned beauty, she is in the public eye because she is a well respected judge who has just recently made the Supreme court. Therefore any suggestion that this comparison is complimentary, simply on the basis that these two women look similar eludes me.

You're right, how dare anyone recognize South American woman for anything other than looks.

Well, quite, if you look like someone, you are automatically guaranteed to possess all their other characteristics as well   Silly me.

AJ has mentioned there's a bit more to the story.

If you have a history of this kind of thing (as it sounds like this guy has), its taken rather more seriously than a one-off.

So its derogatory to tell someone they could be a supreme court judge?

Maybe we should fire the president for telling black minorities they should aspire to become more than just athletes and rappers. After all, as Jesse Jackson said, "he's talking down to the black man".

So you actually believe someone would be dumb enough to be racist in America and in the open?

The only people that can be racist and get away with it are minorities. I thought everyone got that memo.

Oh silly me, that was what he was doing, encouraging a young girl to take full advantage of all her career opportunities.  Well done BY, I didn't think it was possible to reach any further with this but here we are all the way out here, way to go.

is there a rule where someone has to comment on every single thread??

No No. Just interesting to see who comments on what.

To see the threads that some threads get a :ranting::protest: while others have crickets in them. Just interesting that the threads with crickets, tend to negate and discredit the threads with the ranting.

The rule in the US is simple. Keep your mouth shut at all times because someone can and will use anything they can against you.

The same scenario in Aus would have gotten a laugh from all parties.
