Is this racist?

Latinos and education don't exactly go hand in hand. <--- racist statement. Sorry, but it's true.

If I were OT mod you'd be gone for that statement alone.

Would it be any different had he said that that the graduation rate within the latino community is at a alarming rate? I just think that the word racist is one the most abused words in the english vocabulary, had he said something like "well considering that there Latinos I am not surprised that the graduation rate is so low", well then that I would find racist.

Because if past performance is anything to go by he won't clarify the statement any further than what he posted.

What he will do (as he has done here) is throw out arbitrary statistics and web links in dogged defense of it.

All of this is in context of previous comments made on the issue - referring to one hispanic poster's family as being "bowl cut Incas" and stating that crime statistics merit stripping certain ethnicities of constitutionally protected rights (including the 2nd amendment).

AJ said the statement was racist and thats what I was addressing, that was not a racist statement. If Booyah is racist well thats a whole different question.

stating that crime statistics merit stripping certain ethnicities of constitutionally protected rights

Did he really say that or you assuming thats what he meant. I often see Booyahs posts and just skip right over them, not much substance and just a lot of ranting.

You should know M Cleo, takes one to know one, look in the mirror sometime.

What ####### you spew forth! Every society has been invaded by different races or countries from time to time, so I guess they are all racist also. I see you are a white person married to a person of color so therefore you feel guilt or shame for being white now? Interesting. I wonder what this would be referred to in medical terms. :innocent:

You have a 'bone to pick'? I am not sure what you mean by that. The problem that I have is your making actual racist statements, that is, blanket derogatory statements that you apply indiscriminately to everyone pertaining to an ethnic group. It is unnecessary to phrase your arguments in this disingenuous way, unnecessary and offensive.

Can you justify or explain the above stats? Since you claim that unlike myself, you have such a good grasp of interpreting them.

Thankfully the segregation / slavery card cannot be used to defend this minority. The "you're against brown people" is always my favorite.

Honestly you are just ridiculous. Stats are stats, yeah true whatever. I just don't understand how race has anything to actually do with it. It's socioeconomic contributors. Aren't you lucky that you are Mr. Whitey who took over other ppl's countries and made them leave their land or many times die? Don't worry I'm a whitey too, so I'm "allowed" to critique you.

It's not like I'm a pro- fully open borders kind of person or a liberal in case you think it's just "them" being defensive. Every nationality has bad ppl within, my husband can do a good job criticizing people from his own country as well. But there is a point to where you sound like a racist. And you don't care, actually you seem to be enjoying it.

You are just a ###### stirrer. At least BY wants to have a discussion, even if he does get mighty confused at times.

Justify? What are you talking about BY, seriously. All I have asked you to do is to examine your use of blanket statements and derogatory characterizations based on ethnicity. Is that so hard to do? It's not reasonable to say, for example, all Australians are alcoholics just because many Australians enjoy a beer. It's not reasonable and many would find that drawing such a negative conclusion was offensive. Who knew?

Who knew what? What you are doing is suggesting that everyone is equal. Using your example, is there no such thing as some countries having more of a problem with alcohol than others? Of course.

Using the following example, are the French the same as the Brits?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Which countries did Australia conquer again?

Do not dare group us all in the same boat, that each country has their bad apples. Most people don't migrate to another country legally and then run rampant. Whereas, many of these guys came here illegally, yet are running around like wild bulls. We are not the fucken same. Not one bit.

In Australia, they would have been targeted, as are their Lebanese equivalents. Who is ranked 2nd in the world by the UN, case closed.

Who are the Aborigines again?

Well well well, and lookie here and see what country is 3rd on this list, good ole South Africa, I wonder why that is?

He said it explicitly. He presented some statistics about the ethnic makeup of gang members (much as he has here, in fact) and suggested that on that basis that blacks and hispanics should not be allowed to own guns.

He's also said before that - that profiling blacks and hispanics on the basis of ethnicity and the probability that those people are up to no good (as opposed to the usual standard of "just cause" - being caught with a hammer and chisel at someone's door in the middle of the night, for example) should be reason enough for giving the police summary powers to stop and search them.

?????

Not my fault some of you cannot see the difference in what I am saying. The post you quoted is based on quantifiable facts. It was not my opinion, furthermore, it was verified with the graphs that followed it indicating that less than 12% of Hispanics graduate with a a BA degree.

You guys actually rolled yourself because on one hand you are saying we are all equal ( the same group) and crime has little to do with culture, yet you are now ridiculing me for saying it's wrong to group all immigrants together, particularly when we are clearly not the same.

An Aussie in America is nothing like a Hispanic in America. What part of that do you guys fails to grasp? If you are going to suggest I grouped all Latinos together, you are surely mistaken. What I did do is state the obvious, that Latinos have a low graduation and college attendance rate.

Once again, I have posted fact after fact and you guys have posted nothing more than your opinion. Not to mention telling me that 'I just don't get the stats', like you do. It does say something that in all of the years you have been here, about a month ago was the first time you actually verified your opinion with a graph.

A senior manager who's worked here for decades, who's daddy worked here all his life... recently cracked a joke at a lady who works in our cafeteria saying she looks just like Sonia Sotomayor. Saying she could be SCOTUS justice too, looking like that.

Water cooler rumor is that it's gone all the way to HR.

yes. it's not how it was meant, but how it's perceived by the recipient.

Most hispanics in the US have been here for more than three generations. If you bother to read up on US history you will learn that US took over a large portion of land that was previously Mexican/Spanish territory. You are a seriously close minded person!!!

BY - the stats are the stats.

The limit of your analysis amounts to "Latinos and education don't exactly go hand in hand".

As I said - I have no reason to dispute the statistics, but every reason to dispute the way you interpret them.

Who are the Aborigines again?

Aborigine or aboriginal generally refers to Indigenous peoples in general. It is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as:

1: being the first or earliest known of its kind present in a region <aboriginal forests> <aboriginal rocks> 2 a: of or relating to aborigines often capitalized : of or relating to the indigenous peoples of Australia

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Ok and your entitled to your opinion but as long as its clear I was addressing the statement and not Booyah.

He said it explicitly. He presented some statistics about the ethnic makeup of gang members (much as he has here, in fact) and suggested that on that basis that blacks and hispanics should not be allowed to own guns.

Ok I see, well then theres no question hes a racist and what a asinine thing for him to say.
