embassy holiday closures

woot got our interview date for December 29, 2009, I know this is right near several russian holidays and my fiance has told me the Russian gov. closes from 1st - 10th of January, does anyone know if the embassy in moscow will close the visa department during this period or just for the actual holiday?

Consualtes close for Russian and American HOLIDAYS. Both countries celebrate New Year's January 1. In addition Orthodox Christmas is Jan 7. They will be open the other days. They may have an abbreviated schedule on Dec 31 and Jan 6. It is true that the Russian government, schools and lots of businesses close until the 10th, but these are not all holidays. Same in May. The Holidays are May 1 and May 9 but many businesses close May1 -May10

One caveat...absenteeism at businesses which are open is very high during this period, so I would not expect "normal" turn around times, maybe, but maybe not.

well just heard from not only the moscow embassy but state department, they both say they are closed jan 1-10
