On the subject of immigration medicals: Nobody should have to get up at 5 AM. Ever.

OK, that's a little more general than the medical itself, I'm just saying.

Amen to THAT. ugh...

Anyway... Does anyone every have trouble getting through to Dr. Seiden's office? I tried calling twice this morning, figuring they should be open since they start at 7, but haven't gotten through yet. I have to go to work, and it's hard for me to call from there. :( Can we book and appointment via email?

Also, I think this has been asked before, my apologies... but I've never actually had chicken pox, and need to get the vaccine (argh there goes $150, give or take). It's a 2-shot process, with the shots a month apart. I don't have time to get both shots before my interview/medical... will they accept as long as I've got the first shot by then??

For Varicella:

A verbal declaration of chickenpox.

or

Proof of immunization against chickenpox. Normally two immunizations 4 to 8 weeks apart or the first of the two within the 4 weeks prior to your immigration medical examination.

or

An antibody titers blood test showing proof of immunity to chickenpox (varicella).

I'm personally a little worried about how close the medical is to the interview. I mean, we're leaving here the day before my interview... and if the documents are ready for pickup within two days, that means it'll either be mailed out the Friday or Monday after my interview... so they'd have to express it to me. Do they do this? Does it cost to have them mail it out in the first place?

I left a message for them to call me back around 4pm yesterday, so I can ask about that and see if there's any leniency with times (long shot, but going to try anyhow).

Apparently they used to do medicals in Windsor, way back when. I wish. :(

Sam, there is an extra fee to have them sent to you. I'm not sure if they will do overnight and how much that costs. I believe the courier fee is something like $50 for outside of Toronto, check the website might say it on there.

Ashen - they never pick up the phone at the office, you pretty much have to leave a voicemail and have them call you back.

hah... now that you post that, I remember reading it on their website. blah.

Anyways... This is frustrating.. I don't work a job where it's easy to get calls, and people get snotty here when we answer our cell phones at work. great...

And you're right Sapphire. It's $50 to courier the results within Ontario

Ahhh, found it on the website. Thanks.

I'm going to have to call and ask how long they normally take to send it out. I'd rather book for an sooner appointment than have to mail my documents to Montreal after my interview and delay it..

And apparently I should've looked through their website some more. All of my questions re: appointment time were basically answered there, heh.

Far as Gardasil goes, long as you show that you've done things according to schedule for AOS, they're happy. 1st now, 2nd in two months, 3rd six months (I believe) after the first? If you have your interview or are processed for AOS prior to your last one, long as you're on schedule, you'll be fine.

Ashen - That sucks about your job... but considering you're quitting soon I wouldn't worry about people getting snotty about answering your cell phone! I remember when I was booking my interview I played phone tag with the person before I scheduled anything because I was always away from my desk when she called me back. Maybe you could get your Mom to help? Give her a few dates that you could do and then give them her number to call back and actually schedule?

Hey all,

Here is a quick & dirty review of the medical in Toronto!

So I just did the medical today. Not sure if they are like this everyday, but the medical was open at 6:30. I got there around 7ish, gave the first two pages of the packet 3 to the receptionist and she told me to wait in the waiting room. There were only 2 people ahead of me. I think I waited around 15 minutes before a lady called me in. I handed her my passport, vaccination records, 3 passport photos and paid her the $275. I was then told to wait again. Another 10 minutes, I had to do the chest X-Ray, and then I waited another 15-20 minutes before getting called into an exam room. A nurse did the blood pressure and pulse. The doctor then came in and was super nice, asked all the necessary health questions and did the physical exam, which included the pelvic exam (on the surface). Then the same nurse who checked my pulse and blood pressure did the breast exam. Then another 5 minute wait for the bloodwork. This was the scariest one for me, and the lab person who took my blood was no help in calming me down. She basically said we didn't make these to be comfortable for you, or something to that extent. Anyway, overall it took me about an hour and 40 minutes from beginning to end.

The results will be in Friday after 12PM. Hopefully I passed! I didn't see a weird look on anyone's face, so that's a good sign, right?

Tina

How would we know if we've passed the medical? The results are in a sealed envelop that we cannot open right?

And I dont see how those ppl working in Montreal would understand all the medical mumbo jumbo.

Maybe in the envelop there's just a paper saying PASS or FAIL :P

They have a legal obligation to tell you if there is something wrong with the medical, so they will let you by telephone when they process the documents. For example, there have been people that got a false positive HIV test and they were contacted by the medical staff ASAP.

So I wouldn't worry about the pass/fail situation. They will tell you if there is something wrong/missing for sure.
