As a ecumenical sidenote, the Bishop has spent years reading the Bhadgavad Gita, and various commentaries on the Gita. Steinbeck himself pours praise on the Gita... I dig him!

Travels with Charlie, I have read, but not in a very long time. Might I suggest Tagore, have you read Gitanjali?

Unfortunately, I have not read any of Tagore's works. But in the same genre, I have read the full Mahabharata and also read the Ramayana several times from several authors. You're right though, I'll have to try some Tagore...
