The boy rarely drinks coffee and tea, so alas I am a closet drinker.

I enjoy chai also, and still drink it today. While I was working in India we had chai all day long in the factory (Kingfisher Only for the nights though! :goofy: ) On the last day that I was in India, I gave our Chai-Boy (sorry, can't remember their 'official' title that the Indians call them) a 2000 rupee tip and I thought he was going to have a heart attack! That was probably several months worth of wages for him...

I'm here until the end of next week...

yeah, i remember them. i was amazed about how many people are paid servants there. everyone has a maid. i remember when i first got there, i gave the bellboy who helped me with my bags, a $5 bill. he gave me a hug, and for my birthday brought me flowers. hehehe.

yeah, it is not common in india, apparently to leave tips. we taught my husband to leave a tip. so now he leaves them even when i am not there. also taught him how to be a gentleman. in india, they have guards who open doors for you, etc. what a difference in culture, i had to learn how not to say thank you to my mother-in-law. she kept telling me it is her duty to serve me, and i do not need to say thank you to her  that is definitely a FOREIGN concept to me. so i just muttered thank you under my breath

I had to teach my husband that it is perfectly normal to ask for a ' doggie bag ' when eating out. He was repulsed by this and thought it was in rather bad taste to take the leftovers home with you.

Tipping is like a non-existent concept in Peru. I had to force Luis to leave a tip, it's like pulling teeth. Doggie bags were no problem though.

Good Mourning to you, Comrade Susita!

Does anyone else find the Horrible Interview thread annoying? The OP could re-write the entire Book of Lamentations. Wonderful advice was given from all sides, yet , well, .... nevermind.
