I remembered back in the college days, I was always worried that I'd spend 100 dollars in a week. And, I wasn't making much money working at Best Buy. When I goto the mall, I'd spend credit.

Now, I give my wife 500 dollars every two weeks to spend at the mall. Makes her happy. Why the heck to woman love shopping? Doesn't matter which country they come from.

Gathering instinct?

So now I do all my stuff on a Schwab Visa. 2% cash back on everything, no limits no exceptions.

Hmm... looks like they stopped offering it. Google returns a broken link.

2% cash back is decent.

Citi Forward gives me 3.5% back for every $1 spent on dining, books, movies and music (5 Thank You points for every $1; 14,000 points redeemable for $100)

Citibank announced it is doing massive credit account closures as well for their Mastercards. Apparently they sent letters to people last Monday and by Wednesday the accounts were closed. msn has an article about it on their homepage.

Strange. Citi just increased my credit line and lowered the APR.

Chase, on the other hand...

ditto. my limit is increased, and the rate is down. i have a small balance on $20K available.

Wow, 29% is crazy. I didn't like how Citi handled my credit account so I transferred the balance to another credit card company that guarenteed my interest at 8% until the balance was paid and closed the Citi account so Citi lost out for being so greedy.

How did they handle it if you don't mind sharing?

In the letter they 'justify' it as a sign of the times- and yet they put a box in the letter stating how a timely payment of at least the minimum (duh) get a 10% credit of the charged APR. It seems like they're seriously testing something. I'm leaving soon for home but first I get to go pick up my security deposit from my previous rental. Guess what that check's going to cover regardless if they play ball with me?

Citi just mishandled my credit card accounts and I got sick of it. I was late once because their billing cycle wasn't consistant and I pay through my credit union on a schedule. Citi went from a 30 day billing cycle to 28 days thus after a few months my payment was late. Grrrrr I just got fed up and closed my accounts. I went to B of A and have had absolutely no problems and it interest rate is good

Looks like its time to call them and give them the balance transfer ultimatum. And keep the account open just to remind them if they don't want to keep my APR where it is (Citibank).

They want to play greedy, they will lose any interest on whatever balance I keep with them.

Same thing happened to me twice both shot up to 29.99%! That's what I get for always paying on time and more than the minimum.. luckily for me I've very little balance left and I'm paying off the rest. I've read online that the good customers you know the customers that always pay on time and never have late fees are going to be hit with an annual fee next! Time I cut up all but the oldest plastic.

Funny you mention CitiBank I was asked to apply for one of their cards and thought why not.. I got rejected! I applied for a car loan with my credit union and got approved? The banks are in a mess.. a good dose of end of year/Christmas bonus' for the CEO's will help them find new ways to hammer their customers for more cash in 2010.

Sucks... what was the other card that jacked up the rates on you?

UPDATE:

I had a chat with a CSA at 1AM last night. That used to be my preferred time to get the bored ones willing to work with customers... and no deal. The response was scripted, and I told her it was scripted. She started getting frustrated and started going off on Citi's competitors doing the same- of which I corrected her quite quickly and courteously (kind of like I do friendly b!tchslaps with the whiners here).

She offered to opt me out of the increase, thereby scheduling the account for closure when the membership year expires, but I know they'll have to drastically knock down their rates soon due to all the horrible press they're getting. I told her this in hopes the call gets reviewed.

So 30 seconds after hanging up I transferred the entire balance on that card to a 0% APR, fee-waived offer at another card and I'l be paying that off next month, period.

Washed my hands of that BS.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Citi claims BA is doing the same with their accounts but I haven't noticed yet.

And I check my accounts online on a weekly basis- its smart to do so just for fraud prevention anyway. Plus I throw a little extra payment online just to pay off principle faster.
