My fiancee received her K-1 approval letter in Guangzhou on September 22 and we still have no visa. I know of a beneficiary who got her K-1 pink on September 23 and received her visa on October 5. What could be going on?

goto the post office to see what is going on, if nothing then go back to the consulate to see whats going on, if they can't help you then call Department of State.... normally you should get the VISA in about 2 days after the interview, I am thinking your fiancee is on Administrative Processing right now. if the above cannot help you out then call your Senator/Congressman.

She calls the post office every day and we check the EMS website for the tracking number every day. She is in Fuzhou, so it's tough to actually go there. I don't think the consulate will let her in since you need an appointment letter to get in. I have faxed and emailed the consulate, no reply.

Actually, the DOS Call Center will know all about her case.

So, give DOS a call, ask about the case - but... ask for:

1. current status, with date/time stamp

2. last 3 status change items, with date/time stamp.

IT MAY BE that she's in either 'Additional Processing' or 'Administrative Review' ... But you won't know UNTIL you talk with the DOS Call Center.

Also - she filled out an EMS label on interview day - did she write down the EMS tracking number? If so - she can track the shipment at

http://www.ems.com.cn/qcgzOutQueryAction.d...ode=gotoSearchE

Good Luck !!

PS - Yo Ric - can you fill out yer timeline here at VJ ? Helps out a lot !!

I called DOS today and they didn't know anything other than it was under "Final Review" which normally takes one day. I know they have been under a heavy workload, but this is ridiculous. A month and hear nothing?

Sorry to hear this. Did you ask about the prior 3 status type changes??? FWIW, 'namecheck not finished' can be a plausible reason for the hold up.

YOU KNOWING the date/time stamps, is useful as well.

Checked the EMS tracking number a few minutes ago and..........it has been picked up at the consulate!!!!! I'm hoping there are no surprises from here.

That's cool - sounds like it's on its way to the address she put down on the EMS label.

I am HOPING it's the passport with the visa and the medical packet.

Some people have actually received other stuff' in the postal mail - like:

1. a call in letter, with a list of stuff to send to the Consulate or

2. a denial letter

Keep thinking POSITIVE, though.

I do suggest to call DOS, ask for the things I've mentioned, with the date/time stamps. You are searching for 'Visa Approved' .

Thankfully, being denied after being approved is rare.

Does anyone know what will be in the package form the consulate through EMS? The pink letter states that the "Visa Packet" is not to be opened. I am assuming her passport will be separate from the "Visa Packet" they talk about. They say to be certain there are no errors on her visa. That implies the passport is not in the "Visa Packet."

it's a largish envelope.

Inside is 1) the passport, 2) a letter , 3) a large envelope that she's not to open.

The passport should have the visa stamp on it.

The letter contains info specific to her visa.

The large envelope contains the medical stuff, the I-129F, and all notes from various fed workers.

Sometimes the large envelope has a slash in one corner. Don't sweat the slash...
