I dont see any yellow

Aw man, it's on a hill.

We have to stand on the uphill.

Use your imagination... just to the left of the picture... there's a yellow post... about 4 feet high... about 6" around... honest... it's there!

Omg July, I can't believe you can even remember that. I was so nervous I certainly wasn't paying much attention to polls

Hey all... just remember... when you get into the elevator in MTL, DON'T turn around! You will actually exit out the back of the elevator. So, when you walk in to the elevator, you will already be facing the right way to get out. ;)

The strage things we knew before and things we don't forget... like a ride in an elevator. No one said MTL was "normal". ;)

This is very critical information ladies and gentleman. I was the only person facing the opposite direction when the doors opened. During the ride everyone thought I was an idiot, sure, but when they opened and I walked out first I certainly wasn't an idiot anymore! A HA! :star:

Holy November 20th! There goes my "5 interviews a day" theory.

This makes me wonder if they started 'over' booking... like this is likely going to take a bit longer than usual. lol

I'd LOVE to meet up with some people on the 20th... but I'll have to pass on the timmies.. I will seriously get sick. No joke. I'm not going to be in any condition to eat that day until this thing is over. LOL

We're also traveling up on the 19th, and staying overnight on the 20th too, coming back on the 21st. Figure that I've never been to Montreal before, and let's face it, will probably never go again, so might be nice to take the afternoon to enjoy the city :)

Heck, I can skip Timmies now. My choice hotel has a coffeemaker in the room. :dancing:

That was my thought too... I'll never ever have a reason to be in Montreal, and after my bundle of nerves have calmed from the interview, I want to enjoy it. Yes, it's an extra $100 for another night, but I want to enjoy it. So 19th-21st sounded good to me.

Once I have the letter in hand, it looks like I'll be booking at Hotel Dauphin... Reviews look awesome, and the rates look good.

How trustworthy are these third-party sites, though? I've never used any of them.. and bidding sounds too complicated, but places like expedia/hotels.ca don't use bidding. Is it just that they buy bulk rates and resell them?

We actually use expedia for most of our bookings in the past... We've never had a problem. What sort of price do you think you'd get on the bidding sites?

We were thinking of staying at the Hotel Dauphin too. It gets better reviews than La Tour, BUT it's of course more expensive. I think the reason my fiancé wants to book there though is because my name is Daphne, and Dauphin kinda looks like Daphne  (not gonna lie... I noticed too, but I'm not basing my decision on it. LOL)

I've heard of some people getting really great prices on the bidding sites, like priceline, hotwire, etc... Just seems real complicated to me (I know, I'm a wimp).

I'm still browsing through reviews (and a big THANK YOU to whoever bumped that Montreal Hotels Review thread), but from what I've heard of Hotel Dauphin, the prices seem real good for what you get/the overall feel of the place. I'm leaning that way so far... but who knows what I come up with by the time the letter flies on in.

If you are talking about sites like priceline.com, I've def used that before, and my fiancee has too! Always has worked out. I would of course call the hotel just to be sure, I think they should give you some reference code. As for bidding on priceline, the hotel just wants to fill the rooms, they won't give the room away but something is better than nothing for them!

As for Montreal, it really is a nice place in my opinion! Lots of culture, cool fashion (sometimes over the top for me), lots of art to appreciate, shopping... you HAVE to ride the Metro, but maybe thats just me cause in Ottawa there is no underground transportation here! People tend to be friendly I have found, even if you don't know french, most people know english! But you will see most all of the signs are in french. I think its a romantic city really, and even more so after you get your visa!! :)

Ooohhh!!!! Another person for the 13th???

Ok Nov 13 people -- are we meeting up for something? Peachey mentioned dinner/drinks the night before... but is there another time we can meet? (Like not on Thurs night? :P)

I figured most people would be leaving soon after their interviews. That's why I mentioned the night before. We can have a later dinner if that suits you better. Varba won't be arriving till late anyway.

Ok -- may I get back to you as soon as the fiance figures things out with work? It looks like Ill be arriving by noon and he might come either noon or late at night. How late will your dinner be? Hes flying NWA bec I can use my moms reward miles and NWA doesnt fly direct. If hes coming in the afternoon, he wont be in til 10. BUT, I can still make it for dinner :D

Anyone else interested in dinner Thurs night for Nov 13 group, PM me or Peachey so we can set up time/venue. Thanks!

I wanted to stay an extra day, but my fiance doesn't want to seem to spend the money.

I mean, if they're over booking, who knows when we'll actually get out of there.

Not to mention we have to go an hour further than Toronto. Maybe I can ask my parents to help us pay for the hotel or the train.

Trains are too expensive and I hate buses.

I hear ya... , our trip via train would be about 9 hours... bus is about 10-12 depending... there's NO way I can spend that long on a bus and not want to punch things. LOL Our justification for spending an extra night is a) not worrying about how long the interview takes (we don't have to 'rush' back to the hotel to check out on time), and B) we're spending so much just GETTING there, what's another $100 to 'enjoy' it. lol Of course we don't really want to spend a lot, but no sense rushing everything, since it'll be already stressful as is...

We've got friends in the area, so we'll be staying with them :D If my boss decides to let me have the 10th off work, we'll leave Montreal after the interview and stay in Toronto overnight. If not, I'll drop Spoom in Toronto on the way back home. Y'know, cuz high-stress situations and 11 hour drives to well together.... :)
