Charles like any moderator will and can have their decisions reviewed by myself if need be. Trying hard to do the right thing but making a few mistakes along the learning curve is human. If there are problems with new positions I will evaluate that too. Like people have said, I admit Charles is certainly "out of the norm" with past choices but I see potential for many reasons that he can be helpful in the Regional Forums -- or I would not have asked him. There is always a risk when adding any new "abilities" to members however I think it is fair to "give a guy a chance" to do their job and go from there.

Seriously. I've asked the question a dozen times without a response. What is this potential you speak of? I've provided examples why the decision was ill advised, and have yet to see a single concrete example of this "potential." Just help us make sense of this decision please.

Sometimes, it takes people with leadership skills to know who has potential and who does not. It's not always something that can be quantified or explained.

So the criteria for moderators has changed. Because here's what it used to be:

I think it was said well enough above, but basically we try to plan ahead and get enough well rounded, respected, and level headed people that have been members at least "a while" and have continued to demonstrate these things. I also often consult with the mods and other senior members that have been here a while (and that I value and trust a lot -- tips hat to the many people here that have been a great help over the years).

And their are many who think that Charles actually does have those qualities....he has, on the whole, done a good job at organizing, why would he not as a mod? mods don't really get involved in the discussion/dispute.....mostly when members become mods you see less of them posting in their usual style anyway, for example Mags and LaL when they were mods...so much nicer to see them back to themselves btw

And I actually think your idea of respected members of regional forums moderating them is a great idea....and yeh, Slim is a great choice for the RU forum indeed
