No. Its that he brings ####### to this forum on a regular basis, and exhibits no remorse when he offends others. If he were true mod material he would have tried to calm the situation rather than pour oil on a fire. He cannot even moderate himself. How can we possibly expect him to moderate others, particularly when he shows no regard for fellow members.

Can we go back to that post you pasted? Where, specifically, is the problem? He clearly wasn't intending to upset MC, so why is remorse expected?

I appreciate all the feedback so far. Charles like any new mod will have a learning curve and take care to consult other mods as needed. Charles in this case has moderation abilities in the Regional Area only which is exactly the goal. The Regionals often go unseen which leads to issues slipping by the moderation team until things blow up. Charles will hopefully be able to stem things off before they get to a bad place to begin with.

For me, this is a prime reason why Charles shouldn't be put in any position of authority on this site.

Just as a note, Moderators do not have "free reign" over VJ. They simply help to enforce or remind people of the Terms of Service. When the TOS is too vague we attempt to clarify it to make the job of the mods easier. Additionally, if a mod abuses their position or makes an innocent mistake I am here to jump in. Simply said, I would hope we can give a chance for Charles to help out . All moderators are welcome to take their roles on as much as they want or if we need more help we get new people. I also try hard to pick a diverse set of mods to reflect many perspectives. Heck in the past I have been told that our moderation was "too passive" which can be just as bad as too strong. There is certainly a balance and diversity is one way to help towards that goal.

Instead of being made a mod, Charles should be banned. He has had too many warnings and trouble.

Ewok, you never really deal with matters or jump in to actually solve a problem. You seem to play everything on the safe side and leave a blur behind you. I don't think you respect your site too much (or its members for that matter).

So beyond the Org Team, Charles can:

Can edit others topic titles

Can open locked topics

Can close open topics

Can move topics

Can split / merge topics

Can mass move topics

Can set topics as visible and invisible

Can set posts as visible and invisible

I guess I was not clear (and the title does not imply) but he can not "ban, suspend or warn" members. This is the same role Sheriff Uling played. Charles can ONLY do these items in the Regional Forums. I was in a terrible pinch on time the last few days and did not get everything stated as such up front. I also did consult all the moderators up front regarding this.

Long story short, Charles's role is simply to give extra ability to moderate the Regional Forums for issues but does not have the "Global" Moderator tools such as Banning or suspending members. This is an intermediary role (again like Sheriff Uling had before).

I have been considering adding Deputy Mods for each of the major categories on VJ:

> Regional Discussion

So this would mean a total of 4 deputy mods in addition to the 5 global mods. The deputy mods will only be allowed to moderate in their respect areas and for issues requiring TOS issues that may involve suspensions a Global moderator would need to be brought in. As a note, Charles would be the Deputy Mod for the Regional Forums.

By that same set of criteria, then we could make anyone who hangs out and posts a lot a moderator.

I do think that having 'deputy' mods is a good idea on a forum this size -- global mods just cannot be everywhere all the time. I just think the choice is sort of, well, odd - to say the least. LOL. At least the part of the forum in question isn't heavily into immigration advice - because (sorry Charles!) but that doesn't seem to be his forte.
