We have received Packet 3 and I am working on collecting all the required documents for the interview. However, I am quite confused about the Police Clearance Certificates needed in my case. I am Indian Citizen and have been born and living in Bombay till 2006 after which I moved to Pune and currently living here. My Indian passport was issued to me in 2004.

According to the guidelines posted here http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivpolicecertificates.html I need to apply for a PCC in Bombay Passport Office and another one with local Police in Pune (for the 3.5 yrs I have been living here), correct? Recently I visited Bombay passport office for the PCC on which they instructed me to visit Pune Passport Office for PCC since my 'Present' address is the one in Pune. Can somebody give me correct guidance here?

Also, do I need to apply for a PCC with Bombay Police as well for the 2 yrs I was living in Bombay after my passport was issued?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Collect a police clearance certificate for all countries you have resided in since the age of 16 for 6 months or over.

Collect a police clearance certificate for all countries you have resided in since the age of 16, for 6 months or over.

Best of Luck. Best wishes. Thank you.

You only need a PCC for countries you have lived in the from reaching 16 years old for 6 months or over, not cities lived in from the same countrt

example

lived in bombay for 7 months and baroda for 1 year - its the some country so only one certificate needed.

lived in bombay for 7 months and baroda for 1 year and lived in London for 7 months - two certificates needed. as lived in two separate countries since age of 16.

Best of Luck. Best wishes. Thank you.

Police certificates must cover the entire period of the applicants residence in any area from the age of 16, not just country. Or from every city you've lived in for more than 6 months even if you've lived in the same country your whole life.

You just need one local pcc from Mumbai (Bombay), one local pcc from Pune and one from your local passport office where it was issued.

It (the passport pcc) does specifically state from 'where it was issued', so assume that is what it means literally and get it done there.

Incorrect. You would need only one PCC in this case as you lived in the same country. You need PCC where you currently are located. Can others also give their input? Basically eventhough you lived in two different cities in India since you are in the same country it should be only one PCC and one from the Passport office.

9/1/2009: Applied for I-130

9/14/2009: NOA1 for I-130

9/21/2009: NOA1 for I-129F (CSC)

9/25/2009: NOA1 received for I-129F (receipt of mail)

01/15/2010 : Embassy gets the approval notice (Awesome..Love K3...so glad we have done K3)

No, you are wrong. Police certificates are required from every visa applicant aged 16

years or over for each locality of the country of the applicants

nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for

at least 6 months since attaining the age of 16.

Applying for a Visa

The consular section at the embassy or consulate where you, the fiancé(e) of an American citizen, will apply for a visa, will tell you about any additional specific requirements that you need to fulfill to complete your visa application, such as where you need to go for the required medical examination. During the interview process, an ink-free, digital fingerprint scan will be taken. Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant's interview by a Consular Officer. The following is required:

A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond the applicant's intended period of stay in the United States (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions).

Birth certificate

Divorce or death certificate of any previous spouse for both the applicant and the petitioner

Police certificate from 'ALL' places lived since age 16

Medical examination (vaccinations are optional, see below)

Evidence of financial support (Form I-134, Affidavit of Support may be requested.)

Two Nonimmigrant Visa Applications, Form DS-156 (A Form DS-156, prepared in duplicate.)

One Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application, Form DS-156K

Two nonimmigrant visa photos (each two inches 50 X 50 mm square, showing full face, against a light background)

Evidence of a fiancé relationship

Payment of fees, as explained below.

The consular officer may ask for additional information according to the circumstances of the case. Documents in foreign languages should be translated.

Take clear, legible photocopies of civil documents, such as birth and marriage certificates, to the interview. Original documents can then be returned to you.

I don't know how it works in India, but in UK I lived in two different city's since reaching 16, I only have to get one certificate. This is cause on the form it asks you to state all the address' you have resided in since reaching 16, so I states all 4 address'.

That's for UK, from reading the threads above, I assume your form is different. Just fill out the form, on how it states to.

Apologies if I have supplied any inaccurate information unconsciously.

Good Luck

Ok, I posted this in another topic about PCC requirements and thought it important enough to post here as well to avoid even more confusion concerning the Local PCC from India.

Here's an answer to PCC question's. I have been doing some research because of the confusion on the PCC's. It seems that the Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai websites mean precsiely what they say, that you only need PCC from current residency of last 6 months.

Now..the reason for my confusion as well as some others about PCC:

Here in FAM it says pcc for every place lived for more than 6 months:

http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/87393.pdf9

"FAM 9 41.81

(6) Police certificates (in addition to supplying a police certificate from

the present place of residence, the applicant must also present

police certificates from any place or places of residence for 6

months or more since attaining the age of 16"

and here towards bottom of this page it verifies again the above:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

But in HERE it states just pcc from current place of residence and is the correct requirement for India local pcc's:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciproc...ocity_3582.html

So just follow the PCC requirements you receive from the Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi Embassies because as the above shows, you cannot depend on the state.gov website alone. So feel secure that your embassy website and packet 3 and 4 are your best and most reliable sources.
