First rule of using the net at work. Either use a VPN to your home PC, as I do, or use a netbook.

I actually use logmein and connect directly and securely to my home PC. The only way they can get around it is by blocking access to remote pc sites. Without screen shots, they have no way of knowing what I type or see. If they did block it, I would just pull out my netbook; which is not bound by the companies internet use policy.

The only true way to circumvent the internete logging system is to have your own mobile connect card and your own computer. The system we have is two fold, there is software that is each computer as well as a master control system that filters the internet at the source. You can get around it with some crafty proxy use, but the problem of detection still remains. It's not worth upsetting the paycheck gods to read some blog.

What would I register? My own netbook, with my own mobile net connection. As long as I'm not looking at porn and not browsing questionable sites on the PC, my manager does not care. After all, I am not working for some Indian company which would monitor their executives potty breaks, let alone employees.

Where I work, yes. If you bring any device capable of a connection to the Internet you need to register it.

If you wished to steal corporate secrets, you don't need to be on our network. Being on your own network but on campus can be enough.
