Hi All, Paul and I met up there this weekend as well before flying down to Dallas. We went to see the chapel, reception location, he picked out his tux, etc. We are getting married in the western suburb of Chicago called Naperville.

But...the reason I am writing... we got into the downtown hotel we stayed in at around 11 pm Sat night. The concierge left a message and found a place for us to watch the Burnley Blackburn game at 7 am Sun morning.

The Globe Pub at 1934 W. Irving Park Road.

Down the street from where I used to live. Very close to Wrigley Field. Anyway, we happened to wake up at 6:45 am and we just said let's do it. Took a cab up there and had tea/coffee/breakfast at this pub. Sadly Burnley lost but it was great.

We also talked with a young guy getting his PhD from Lancaster (?). He is here on a student visa.

So just fyi for anyone who stays in the city.

AS I recall it wasn't just Brits who met up in Chioago. There was a thread in OT that invited all VJ members in the Chicago area to meet up.

I think Nicky McMillan's missus (Ginger something?) arranged it. Haven't seen her on here for a bit but he's still posting regularly. He's probably yer man for this.

You are quite right that ginger organized that event. Though I doubt she'll be anxious to do so again since she got burned financially due to several no-shows who never paid.

My advice would be to do a meetup, but don't tell a restaurant or bar that a specified # of people are showing up. Who ever shows, shows and pays his/her own way.

Hi Bob, when I first moved to Atlanta I joined a meetup.com british group. It really helped me settle in and they were great for support.

Here's the web address for the chicago group http://brit.meetup.com/50/

Also search on yahoo groups...there's probably several groups out there

good luck :)

Thanks for the input folks. I've been busier then a one-armed wall paper hanger lately and finally got back to check on my own thread here

MonkeyJuice, we'll have to arrange something better then our wave at the Manchester Airport. Let Pat and I know when you two are going to be back in town.

Damian and *julez*. Yeah thats right I saw it in OT, and I do remember some chatter about somebody getting burned because of no-shows.

Amanda and Tony, Thanks for reminding me about Meet-up. I've used it for other events before. Don't know why I didn't think of it now.

pdcvcm, it sounds like you had a nice time in the area. And I'm familiar with Naperville, my daughter and my money go to college there.

Leenie, good luck in your visa journey. Just remember to roll with the punches and it's all good in the end.

I am a Benedictine Alumn! (won't say which year, because it is pretty recent, within past 4-6 years) All my siblings go there too, BU is very special for me, still go there to revisit my undergrad days!

Also am familiar with North Central College...Downtown Naperville is pretty.
