Hi,

We have a scheduled interview date at the embassy in Manila now for a K-1 visa. I am working on the I-134. I have all of my tax returns and W-2's for the past 4 years. But I have a question on the letter of employment. How important is it to have a letter from my manager on company letterhead? The reason I ask is I work for a large company that uses a service called "The Work Number" to verify employment and salary. I can easily login there and get a form sheet with all of the pertinent info and has the company logo on it. But it isn't an actual letter signed by my manager. That one would take some more time to obtain since I am located in the US and he works out of his home in Ireland. If I need to get an actual letter I am sure I can... but will take longer and our company prefers using the service to verify employment.

Also, how important is it to have letters from your banks if salary is more than enough to meet income guidelines? Thanks.

No need to declare any assets at all if your salary is sufficient. Regarding the employment letter, I'd better let someone from the Philippines chime in since handling of I-134s can vary depending on the consulate.

K1: 01/15/2009 (mailed I-129F) - 06/23/2009 (visa received)

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)

You might want to think about including a copy of your bank statements for the past few months as well. Just to show that your cash flow is in good order.

I think the letter from your employer is a Must Have.

I can't say HOW important the letter is, the directions simply say you need one. Mail from Ireland should take just a few days to get....You don't have any supervisors here in the states who can sign? Any HR people? My letter was simple and from my foreman, not any of the managers. Low level supervisors/foreman etc. should be OK.

I sent no letters from the bank, my income is well above the poverty guidelines. I did send in a copy of my last statement just to show them the consular I have an account etc. I don't think it was really necessary.........My fiancee' (now my wife!) says the consular barely glanced at my paperwork package before approving her. Then again he may have examined them before he interviewed her. If you want my letter format, I will post here later.

I sent in only 3 latest years tax stuff as required.

Good luck

Letter of employment isn't required - if you can get one, that's great, otherwise you'll be fine without one - the Embassy/Consulates know not every employer will supply one. The main evidence looked at are your pay stubs and income tax returns.
