Makes me wonder why there is this preconception that simply displaying a flag equates to a display of patriotism.

Of course, its probably accurate to say that most our jobs aren't at risk from signatures and avatar images on an immigration message board.

Whats the point of bringing that up when the question of these fireman's maturity is in question. Is it because you cant find it in yourself to agree with anything I say?

Generally speaking, when we post signatures on our forum profiles we aren't putting our jobs at risk in doing so.

This guy would rather kick up a stink about something as stupid as a sticker on a locker rather than do his job.

Mature it ain't.

You don't have the same rights at a place of employment that you do in your own home. Its always been that way.

If that wasn't the case then surely it would be OK for office employees to walk around in the buff or in their underwear, like they do at home.

I don't know......When we get to the point where we can't display our flag, for whatever reason, I get a little nervous about that.

It seems to me that the firefighter chose to fall on his sword at the wrong time. Stickers were banned because inappropriate & offensive stickers were a problem & the firefighter wanted to violate the policy with a sticker of the flag. The fire commissioner (a former Marine) was put in an impossible position & chose to uphold the policy.

I think a better course of action would have been to petition for a change in the policy to allow for certain stickers (like the flag) that aren't offensive, rather than to make a big deal about the whole thing. Patriotism has a lot more to do with actions than symbols, but some people have hard time understanding this.

Taking issue with somebody taking issue of having a american flag sticker in america is not what I wouldnt call immature, hes not going to get fired and he knows that, that said I took issue with MC comparing them to 6yr olds just because they put a sticker on the locker.

putting stickers on lockers is 6 year old behaviour. Demanding that you must put a sticker on your locker regardless of the policy in the station that is designed to prevent inappropriate stickers being stuck to lockers is 6 year old having a tantrum behaviour. Putting sparkly stuff on your sig is pretty 6 year old but lacks the petulance and faux patriotism of the firefighter.

Its wrong place/ wrong time IMO. I'm sure every single firefighter in the department is a patriotic American... all the firefighter did was create a controversy where it shouldn't have existed.
