What name to put on the forms

I'm getting married this weekend and was wondering if I am I able to use my married last name on the AOS papers? All i'll have with the new name will be the marriage certificate I won't have had chance to change my name with soc. sec.

Also my family were wanting me to keep my maiden name in some way, I want to take my husband's last name. So could I put my maiden name as middle name. So on the forms it would say first name, middle name would be maiden name and last name would be my husband's last name.

Has anyone had any problems doing this?

This is very commonly done - now would be the time to do so. Use whichever name you want to be know as. Marriage certificate is your proof.

Has anyone had any problems doing this?

No - people do this every single day. Quite common.

Thank you! That was most helpful... I guess the USCIS can always tell em if they don't like it. But looks like i should be all set... Thanks!

I also put my maiden name as middle name, and used my husband name as my new last name on all of my AOS papers. If you see 'other name' section, don't forget to fill in your maiden name!

I found it from here_VJ that we can start to use new name from there. Later we can use the new name on driver's license, and social security card etc.

Thank you Karen - it's great to hear from someone who has done the same thing.

I found something somewhere online where the girl got an RFE asking for further evidence of middle name change, beyond the marriage cert... But others have had no problem...

I also did exactly the same thing.

The civil surgeon who filled my 693 said that it's about the only thing USCIS do cooperate with petitioners on.

She had a sense of humour and a half.

Karen i'm still undecided, I get married on Saturday then medical and stuff next week so have at least a week to decide. But I think right now i'm just going to take my soon to be hsuband's last name. It's my family that want me to incorporate my maiden name. I did read though that when you apply for citizenship you can legally change your name then. So maybe i'll wait to add the maiden name as middle name then since it's more something my family care about than me. If that makes sense... And even they have said we'd like it but it's your decision. I'm def taking my hsuband's alst name though and suing it on the forms :)
