I just got my IV Fee Bill e-mail. I guess they do send them still. I paid it last night, so I hope it doesn't screw me up. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

From what I understand from Sierratango, there is no difference in process for electronic filing then regular filing EXCEPT for electronic filing, you email everything in pdf format to the special Montreal NVC email address and do not mail anything in unless they request it.

So after you pay your bills and they show paid, print out the Paid receipt then email the packets in. For Montreal, they do not change your case number, so no need to wait for that.

Danielle

yep exactly... I guess we'll be the first ones to know whether it makes any difference filling electronically or not.. (besides the $$ saving from all the mailing)

Okay, I've gone ahead and done just that -- saved the barcoded receipt for the AOS, and emailed it in, along with the I-864 and my wife's supporting documents.

Once the payment for the IV fee clears, I'll email all THAT stuff in too.

One final question -- did any of you scan photos at this juncture? I figure that's not necessary, but if you did...well, I will too!

YEP whatever they asked for.. I scanned and sent it to them! You have to, unless you want an RFE for photos which would totally suck lol!

oh and also, I would make a little ''contents'' page as well.. its not too hard if you've got the right tools so that in the event they were to print the pages out it would make their life easier. It might not be needed, but hey.. it doesn't hurt!

Now, when you say "asked for" do you mean they provided a list via email, or do you just mean the standard requirements for each packet?

I just checked LingChe's shortcut Wiki. Here's what it says:

Send your IV Package

Below are the package contents:

* BARCODED Cover Sheet (to be printed from web when your status is PAID online for IV bill)

* You OWN cover sheet listing what documents are in the package, so they're easy for the reviewer to locate

* Completed DS-230 part I & II and ONLY part I signed by beneficiary.

* Photocopy of the beneficiary's passport biographic data page.

* Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s birth certificate.

* Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s and petitioner’s marriage certificate.

* Original police certificates of the beneficiary.

* Original/certified copy of military record, if applicable.

* Original/certified copy of divorce decree, death certificate, etc. of previous marriage, if applicable.

I would read the instructions on the DS-230 to see if they need photos of the Beneficiary or not....

yea, those are all of the things you are required to send in anyways.. as for the photo's I looked around and called them to confirm, and the lady said I should scan those in and attach and send as well. So I did just that, along with all the other stuff like cover page, contents, etc etc.

Basically you send them whatever you would send if you were mailing them the IV packet, just that its done on the computer. I dont think there is any difference, maybe its a part of their 'paperwork reduction act' who knows?

So I was looking through the other threads and found that Sierratango had one of THE shortest time from NVC approval to getting an interview:

Case Completed at NVC : 2009-08-27 Interview Date : 2009-10-13

kinda gets me all excited hehe.. perhaps it was because of electronic processing? gosh I hope its true haha..

That's why I did it that way. ;)

I figured it was worth the risk (the risk being that there's very little information available on the process).

I hope Sierratango comes back to give a recap of the process though...

How far have you reached in the process? Have you submitted your DS230 aswell? And i've been looking everywhere, how the heck do we know that the case is complete at NVC? Do we keep calling them ??

I haven't sent in my DS-230, no -- my payment for it still shows as "In Process".

From what I've read elsewhere, the only way you know that your case is done at NVC is by attempting to log in to the payment site and having the script "LOGIN FAIL" etc. come up. Which is a poor way of letting people know their cases are free and clear...but there you have it!

Still, I'll feel a lot more comfortable once I get a bit of reassurance from someone who has officially completed Electronic Processing at the Montreal NVC. I think Sierratango is the only one around these parts who has.

I wonder -- since the email address is actually for MontrealNVC, does that mean it could be handled by a division AT the consulate itself? That would explain why the process goes a lot faster, since there's no delay in getting the documents to the consulate, since they'd already be there. Hmm.

Ah - this one I know something about ;)

SERCO contractors handle the email in-processing, and the SAFEFILE system is used to handle the electronic bundling of the casefile to the Consulate.

You won't find SAFEFILE listed anywhere on the state.gov website - it's some secure system for sending casefiles from NVC to the various consulates / embassies. I've no idea what other uses it has, though..

For GUZ-bound K1 Visas, since May, about half are using SAFEFILE, no physical shipping.. (ya, I said K1 ) .

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

When you guys are sending in the forms electronically, the DS-3032, I-864, DS-230, do you have to scan some barcode as in as well for the top of the form?

I'm still deciding whether or not to OPTIN and do this electronically, I have an NVC case number, and the AOS fee was generated and I paid it online and it's still listed as "in progress".

For the DS-3032, if I have my wife fill it out, and send it in with the OPTIN email, the form says it needs some barcode at the top, how did everyone here handle that piece or did you just ignore it?

thanks!

JaJo08 - no barcode required if 'going electronic'. Ignore the barcode section for the DS-3032.

Still required for paper, though.

Good to know! Thanks Darnell. Another quick question, when we send the email to OPTIN, does the 3032 need to be attached to it, or can we send that separately in another email? Also, when sending things in the future, do you always have to put OPTIN in the subject line or how do you know what to put?

thanks! Your wiki page is very informative as well!
