If you are married to a USC and lived here for several years have you thought about citizenship? Not sure what problems your sponsor passing way will cause if any but that would solve them.

Condolences to your wife and yourself.

I am sorry for your loss.

You don't have to notify USCIS. If you came on a family sponsored visa, your wife is actually your sponsor - your father in law was your co-sponsor. The affidavit of support still remains in place between your wife and USCIS until you become a US citizen, earn 40 quarters of employment benefits, either of you die, or you abandon your green card. If you took advantage of any means tested benefits, USCIS still has the right to approach your wife to have her pay them back.

Regardless, if your father in law had been your sole sponsor the contract would end with his death and there is no need for you to obtain another sponsor.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thank you for a quick response. This would have been disasterous, we have already lost our home because of his passing, my wife wouldnt be able to take much more
