Hi. Applying for my spouses visa and wondering if it's possible to use assets in her Japanese bank account to help us meet 125% of the federal poverty guideline for a family of 3 on the I-864. I come up a little short with my assets, but her assets would help meet the requirements. Is this possible?

If so, does she need to fill in any forms, or just simply submit a copy of her bank account with the AoS?

One more question in regards to bank statements, should you submit only the most recent, or also submit records from previous months.

Thanks again.

Technically, foreign assets can be used, but it depends on the embassy- some embassies prefer/ will only allow US based assets (which makes sense, because they can go after those easier). Maybe post in the regional forum to ask if Japan accepts them, or contact the embassy.

With the bank statements, if you are talking assets (ie a lump sum of money that is in a savings account and has been there a while), then a simple overall statement, showing how much money is in the account, should be enough. Some embassies want letterheaded paper, others are ok with an online statement print-out. If you are showing regular income, then provide several months to show the pattern.
