'shutter' (the original from thailand. stay away from the crappy american re-make) really really scared the hell out of me.

'the thing' is the only movie that ever shocked me. pretty well done and repulsive.

mostly for aesthetics and sheer beauty i loved 'suspiria'. day-glo colors and one of the most good-looking (i don't know of another way to put it) deaths ever committed to cinema (most dario argento is good though)

and if you want something that is both scary and funny and just outrageous i recommend 'drag me to hell'. too much fun!

Two movies that come to mind . . . actually Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds" was one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. The suspense and the unknown quality just built up until my whole body was tense with the 'waiting'. Don't ever want to watch that one again.

One that truly frightened me in a totally different way was "If you Love This Planet". I didn't sleep for several nights after watching that, convinced that any time I was going to see the mushroom cloud of the nuclear explosion that would destroy civilization. It was a terrifying reality - far more so than a mere horror movie - because this one was real.

That being said, I don't watch horror movies or scary movies. An old boyfriend used to drag me to the theatre with him to see them and it would be a waste of money to buy me a ticket because I would be sitting there with my eyes covered by my hands the whole time.

The Blair Witch Project actually just made me physically sick to my stomach because of how the image never stayed still and sort of jerked about the whole time. I ended up trying to lie down over the seat next to mine with my eyes closed (not a comfortable or easy position to get into, hehehehe) because if I sat up and looked at the screen I knew I would throw up.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

His holy temple

Earthly thoughts

While with reverence

That Blair Witch thing creeped me out for ages, but I never thought it might have anything to do with that jerky hand held camera thing! That's quite possible...now that I think of it.

And I really wish I wasn't

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

It! That clown scared the bejesus out of me. And have to agree with Hellraiser. The Pinheads still scare me.

I love horror movies. Especially zombie ones.

You're all probably going to laugh but for me it's the blair witch project.

I actually needed to see a therapist after that movie who told me to watch it again and tell myself that it was just a movie - even though I knew all along but still it scared me. I slept with the lights on for weeks, and I kept my son beside me in his bassinet at night, as he was just recently born.

That movie scared the living shite out of me. :(

I write this thread because right now my husband decided to order the blair witch project on comcast and I am so scared. He's laughing at me, what an #######!

 No, I totally agree, that movie was ridiculously scary. I was 11 or 12 when I first saw it, home alone with one of my cousins and he had my convinced the story was actually real and they found the film in the forest after they want looking for the missing people. I was terrified for weeks... I wouldn't even watch the second one. But, no therapy was involved

I have a bad habit of annoying people by laughing and/or heckling any horror film I happen to see. -_-

Seriously, it takes a lot for a movie to scare me. Probably the ones that have some truth to them would be the worst, but I tend to stay away from those ones. I remember as a kid, that scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where they rip out the guy's heart and then lower him into lava inside a cage... that got me pretty good.

On a related note...

I saw The Exorcist when I was 5. My parents were out and my sister and her friend were babysitting me and they let me watch it. Jaws was another one I saw as a kid. I thought Linda Blair was in my closet and the shark was under my bed.
