Here's a thought - how about letting the market decide? Rather than dictating to the population what they're allowed or not allowed to have, why not work on solutions to turn energy hogs into energy savers?

I don't need Daddy California to tell me what I can and cannot have.

And besides, just because you can't drive down to Best Buy and pick one up, doesn't mean you can't go online and order one from another state. That's how I got my 55" plasma...

I'm not against energy savings & helping the environment, but it does tick me off when a bunch of legislators driving their Hummers, living in their mansions with the A/C running 24/7, and watching their 60" Sony's think they can dictate to me what I'm allowed to have. Make the environmental choice convenient and the same price or cheaper than the alternative, and the consumer will follow.

I wouldn't mind less 'always on' street lighting in every neighbourhood, but people don't like the dark anymore.

So you don't use energy efficient appliances then Trailmix? You prefer to waste energy for no good reason? There is nothing wrong with asking manufacturers to seek low energy solutions and it does the consumer a favour. Electricy isn't going to get cheaper, you do know that, right?

Whether it should be mandated rather than requested, that's really the rub question. From my point of view, whatever delivers low energy using big appliances that bring the cost of use down is good with me.

Its not a great reason but this will mean the difference between Plasmas and LCDs basically, and Plasmas certainly have a much sharper picture than LCDs.

I have faith in our television engineers though on this one though. Too much money at stake to not figure out how to get it all.
