Lighten up you guys, this country ain't all it's cracked up to be - there are numerous other countries in the world to live in besides this one -

Yes, ok the europeans worked like dogs too to build this country including my ancestors but in our lifetime the mexicans have been working our fields don't say it isn't true and is your 15 year old brat with the ipod on his head going to go out and pick oranges to feed your family? I highly doubt it. This country lovessss to complain but we have everything - and we kick ppl when they are down - the moral condition of this country is a disgrace. If there were any honestly or intelligence at all in the gov't, they would make the illegal immigrants legal and make them pay taxes. That way we can start to pull this country out of the hole President Bush plunged us into.

can you explain (without the bush rant) how that would prevent the usa from finding itself in the same situation in the future, given that amnesty has been done what, 7 times in the past?

That's the point the pro-amnesty crowd doesn't like to discuss. The fact of the matter is that once you legalize the currently exploited laborers, they can't be kicked around anymore. So, a new batch of slaves will need to be attracted. And, as history has shown time and again, that new crowd will be attracted and they will come.

Frankly, if we take your advice the US should just push to bring Mexico into the US and subdivide it into 3-4 states. Its not THAT big of a leap from what your describing.

The inherent problem with major illegal immigration in the 21st century is that the earth is overpopulated or near overpopulated. We can't think like we did in the 1800s much less the 1970's when the population was more manageable.

But we already have Mississippi. Why do we need to add 3 or 4 parts of Mexico that would really end up being like adding 50 Mississippis. Why not better use the time, money, and effort to fix Mississippi and let Mexico reap what it itself has sown? No more bailouts and/or amnesties! Doesn't the USA have enough problems without importing more problems that really aren't our ballyhoo in the first place? You can't save the friggin' world so you might as well save yourself. Misery loves company, but I sure as hell don't.

It's unfair when they keep out mexicans but they let everybody else in - a mexican can't even come here on vacation if they want to, it's a big long thing of red tape to even get a travel visa, that's just wrong, it's wrong. People should be able to go wherever they want to go in this world and gov'ts are stopping them, it's wrong.

I WISH mexico and the USA were one country, that would be a blessing!!

make up your mind. first it's "a mexican can't even come here on vacation if they want to," and then "it's a big long thing of red tape to even get a travel visa"

Perhaps if we didn't have millions of illegal aliens here from Mexico, it would be easier of Mexicans to come here legally.

Are you for real? 62% of illegal aliens in the US are from Mexico, yet Mexicans make up 1.6% of the world's population.

27% of America's total legal residents are from Mexico, versus the Philippines in position 2., at 4.5%.

Mexicans are clearly hogging the US immigration system, which unfairly leaves the rest of the world to compete for what's left.

Every time an illegal alien hops a fence or swims the river and gets away with it they control American immigration policy and the destiny of our country. Who do you think pays the coyotes to smuggle their relatives into the USA?

I think you hit the nail on the head there. Who the heck are these guys to control the United states immigration policy? Let alone jump the line ahead of every other person.

They do it because they get away with it and are rewarded for doing it. Obama and company are just one in a long line of backstabbers that are willing to sell out our country for the 6% of Hispanic votes and to fill their campaign coffers with corporate $$$ at the expense of middle class America. Another reason why he needs to get lost in 2012 and his party in 2010 mid-terms. I'm all for that kind of change. Throw the bums out of office!

The Mexican that would like to travel and can't should send a big fat THANK YOU note to his fellow countrymen who come here and fail to leave. It's what I tell my wife's friends and family even if they don't want to hear it. The fact of the matter is that if Ethiopians hadn't developed a predictable pattern of failing to return to Ethiopia once afforded the opportunity to travel to the US, it ould be a heck of a lot easier for Ethiopians to obtain a travel visa to the US. Besides, it's not that folks from countries with a high probability of not honoring the terms of a visa cannot get one. My wife's mom did get a visa to come here to visit. Just gotta put together a good case with the application.
