Lol, they can go ahead and check my FB, oh and while they are at it check my myspace!!! Status has been posted as engaged since the day he asked me! I have a ton of folders of pics of us together. Heck my myspace page has a musical video of pictures of us together over the last 3 years. I have nothing to hide, if it shows them we are for real, they can have it! :P

 @ paris

she's married to a USC and been here for almost three years she gave me tidbits like the joint accounts, lease and insurance docs that they looked at and said the CO complimented her on her FB page and advised her that she can get info on FB about Visas and Passports and other Immigration related issues. she was APPROVED! so she did not mind them looking

Setting your FB account to "private' does not mean that no one can get access to all of your information. FB's public API is wrought with security holes that make it possible to get access to anyone's "private" account in certain cases.

The best advice is: don't put anything on a public forum that you don't want others to see. FB is a public forum.

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

The details of your facebook page won't turn up in a search engine either. I'm not sure I understand the question.

No, I meant that can those be accessed? I understand FB's terms of service can involve third party use and I'm sure a government agency wouldn't have problem getting access. I was just wondering what the deal is with private blogs but not social networking sites?

why on earth would anyone be worried if they looked at our facebook pages? i for one wouldn't give two hoots.. considering most of what i write is blah blah blah i love Andy, and there are many millions of photos of us together on there.

also, why wouldn't you put "married" as your relationship status if you were?

it seems silly to worry about this if you are legit!

It depends on the site. In theory, nothing is 100% safe, however some sites are more secure than others. I guess your faith in the security of a site should match the expected level of privacy for the type of site in question. I don't know what a "private blog" is, but I'm assuming its a blog that you would at least share with some people (otherwise why even bother to put it on the internet). In that case, it's not truly private, is it? On the other hand, I would think sites such as mozy.com or other services dedicated to backing up your personal data have a relatively high expectation of privacy. Facebook, blogs, etc, in my opinion, have little to no expectation of privacy.

Hi everyone! I think that the person interviewing whoever it was could have just BSed by saying nice FB page. Most people are on FB nowadays, so that's a good trick comment. If that person had reacted in the way they were testing them to do, then it would have gone downhill! I think it's a good ruse actually! We all know the embassy folks use trick questions to watch reactions.

And to reassure people (even though I'm sure none of us would care if they saw us gushing about our spouses on FB!), if you're private, law enforcement entities must subpoena your FB page (and that's through a grand jury subpoena usually-and would only be allowed if they think you're violating a crime and they're investigating you). USCIS peeps aren't law enforcement-a federal agent would have to do it (i.e. ICE agent). FB is very strict with law enforcement. They even have a handbook for the gun toters. The government can't go through loopholes without a subpoena, and they won't hack into your account. I'm sure they really don't have the time to look at public FB pages that much!

Hope everyone's having a good start to their weekend!

Oh also, FB has some type of privacy setting you must set so you don't show up in a Google search. I did it awhile ago but I'd have to figure out how I even did it! If you search yourself on FB though, comments you've posted on other walls do show up sometimes. Weird.

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

hmm... if the us government has Facebook, i'm pretty sure they would be able to look at your profile regardless of whether privacy is on or not. it's the us government. they probably use some anti-terrorist laws or something.
