Hence the problem with US media.... they can't tell what REAL news is

i'm not so sure that it is entirely the media's fault. after all, each person here has their own area in the world they care about, right? so if the us media covered every continent that would take how long? they'd find people either not watching if on tv or not reading that part of the paper (which btw means more pages and more cost). ccn even does reruns so that's not very helpful. watch cnn for about 20 min and you know what's on for the hour.

as it was discussed in another thread, it is up to us as individuals to keep ourselves informed. i follow msn and yahoo news with specific concentration in north and south america, europe, and the middle east. if you asked me about what's making headlines in say japan i'd not have a clue. is that a bad thing? perhaps, but right now the japanese stock market is not launching missiles or having a shooting war.

so let's be realistic and not blame the media. they have only a short amount of time to broadcast the news before they go back to mindless soap operas/talk shows/reality shows etc that the american public adores.

*gets off soapbox*

now waits for someone to say i'm a liberal for defending the usa media :P

Filthy liberal!

 Just kidding....

Seriously though... I don't care what part of the world you're personally concered with, the fact that the president uses the same language as a large portion of ppl all over is not newsworthy.

The US media is less concerned with the real news today than they are with scandal and gossip.

Isn't that the point - Someone clearly decided this story was worth devoting 5 minutes of airtime to. Much the same reason they stick in stories about waterskiing squirrels, for instance.

You hear people say all the time "there's nothing in the news today" - you have to wonder how true that really is...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Bush then quickly moves into small-talk mode. He loves the sweater Blair chose for him. Blair, flattered, makes a weak joke ("In fact I knitted it!")

I thought they were talking about a shrubbery. A little one. Not too expensive. ;)

Are you sure it wasn't two? You know, for that split level effect?
