Mine's not here yet but I know he'll be fine! Not much different from Finland...

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

Holy ####### Paris... you got your October interview??

How'd you swing that sweet deal? I swear to god, I'm going to relocate to France or something like that. It's been over 9 weeks and we haven't heard a peep yet. None of us Canadians have. NO K1s or CR/IR1s. It's scary.

Congratulations -- it means you guys get to be together SOON! That's amazing...

Sorry I missed that, I have been staying out of these places as hearing about people who finished way after I did getting an interview in the space of a week or two really bums me out.

Am happy for everyone but just dont' want to have to deal with it, ya know???

#######? He has to be here within a week of the interview? Now that would be stressful...hang in there Paris! In a few weeks you'll be together!

This is a good topic because I think everyone of us at some point goes: "holy #######, they're actually coming!" :P

For us... we had MANY lengthy discussions about the adjustment period, what to expect ect, we had lots of time for it lol

We talked about roles and expectations of eachother. We also talked about what exactly we were each worried about in the first 6 months-year...and that REALLY helped us.

He has been here for 5 months and we havent had any "times" that arent to be expected from any other married couple who are living together for the first time.

keep your communication open and have an open door policy to discuss any problems you guys may have and you'll be just fine!

I have read of many HARD adjustments and it scared me to pieces for a while before he came, we talked and talked and now we laugh at ourselves for freaking out about it(ok, he teases me is more like it :P)

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Mine loves the ocean so much, he's just crazy about it! Since it's cheap here in V.B. during 'off season', I'm going to rent us a beach house at Sandbridge for one full month. Then he can wake up every morning to the sound of the waves, see the rising sun as it rises from the ocean and last but not least, Dolphins so close to the beach you can practically touch them!

I really have my hopes up to make this a reality for him.

I can't wait to be back. I spent the previous four years in college and so it won't be a hard change. But I can imagine it might be a bit of a shock/adjustment for those going over for the first time. But I'm sure you'll get over it soon, and you will have your SO and his/her family to help you through it.

there's not a ton of things to see in Louisville. But he was happy to see everything that I had been seeing and talking about for almost 2 years lol

If youre close enough to go to magic mountain and she likes rollercoasters, how about knotts berry farm or universal studios too? you have tons to show her :D (I grew up in OC :P)
