After two lengthy document checks (necessary because my fiance is a foreigner, according to the embassy), my fiance was just sent another form that she apparently has to fill out before getting an interview, with the title "Preliminary interview form". This form asks a lot of the very same info already submitted multiple times on the G-325A and other biographical forms. The only difference is that this one also asks about siblings.

When my fiance asked why information about her siblings was necessary, she was just told that in her case, it was necessary. She said something about how it is easy to judge in a Japanese citizen's case, but in my fiance's case (a Vietnamese citizen) it's different. But then in the end she said that this info is necessary for anyone applying for a visa through an I-129F and I-130. That doesn't make any sense. It seems to contradict what she had just said, and that doesn't show up on any of the official forms. Plus, what difference does it make what sort of siblings she has?

What has us really concerned is that according to the form, it could take months to investigate this. The person she talked to on the phone said she did not know how long it would take until seeing the information. We started the application way back in October, and expected to receive an interview soon. In fact, an interview notice was sent to her several weeks ago, by mistake -- one of the many mistakes this embassy has made.

Has anyone else been asked about their siblings? Anything I can do or tell to the embassy to help speed things up? I can at least contact them by fax. I can't convey how frustrating and disheartening this extended wait has been; my fiance will run into very difficult circumstances if she does not get a visa soon.

I dont know why they are asking about her siblings, however go to this site as it gives the new procedures for asking the Tokoyo embassy questions (email rather than fax)

I would suspect that it has to with her nationality and some requirement concerning that with security checks. Many people have been caught in the security check hell" as of late.

That's the pay service... and based on my experience when I paid ~$13 for the phone service, it would be nothing but a waste of money. It's farmed out to off-site employees who can't answer anything specific about your case. I think about the only thing they can help you with is general info along the same lines of what's posted in the guides on this site.

The only ways I've found to get through to them with questions regarding our case specifically is to fax (they have called my fiance same day with a response both times I tried faxing), or to call their general number and ask for "Taira san," the person who's been calling my fiance on the phone every time. I don't know if she's directly responsible for the case or someone's underling.

You say many people have been caught in security check hell lately... is that on the US side or the embassy side? Is it similar inquiries to what we have been facing?

I have been thinking about contacting my Representative's office or an attorney, but would that help at all?

The security check thing has gotten out of control in many areas and for many nationalities. No real reason or sense to be made of it.

Yes I would say contact your congressman first and see if they can help. A lawyer may also help but from what I have seen they often are not able to get any more answers than you can.

If you can get a congressman to ask the question you will usually get a straight answer from the embassies (note I said usually)
