please i dont know who to ask , I am 67 and came to the us in 1963 on a permenant residant aka green card , and regesisterad when required , i never became a citizen ( to busy working and raisen 3 children ) I recive $623 .00 a month from ss , I have now become dissabled and not able to suplament my ss , i applyed for ssi and was refused because i am not a citizen , I know that illeagles get ssi, I know that refuges get ssi , why cant i get ssi , i have never recived goverment help in my life , can some one explain this to me then i can let it go , i have no other income or property thanks for any help magpie

Never too late to become a USC, not even after 46 years. You may be able to get a waiver for the fees involved; if not use a credit card and pay it back with the money the SSA will pay you once you are a USC.

That said, I'm not a USC either and the SSA sends me an account statement every year telling me how much money I will receive once I become disabled. Everyone who got 10 years of payments "in" is eligible to get money out.

thanks Bob , I am on the phone right now with ssi , they called me , she said they where reoping the case because they seemed to have made an error lets hope so , I am tied up right now but wanted to let you know how much i appraciate you taking time to help , may i let you know the out come thanks again magpie

agreed that if you worked for 40 quarters and made payment into social security you are eligeable.
