i-864A, confusing time for me!

So... The Jerusalem consulate decided to contact me but ignored all my other emails and fax. Instead in the email i received from them it said:

"Kindly send an i-846A to include spouses income for (name of the person who helped us with our affidavit of support) joint sponsorship."

For the record, I did not make an error, i know the form is an I-864A but they must have mistaken in their e-mail.

My question is, when i downloaded the I-864A and sent it to the person who is supposed to fill it out, we were both confused on how to fill it out. http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-864A.pdf here is a copy of it. The spouse of the guy who helped us is not working, she is a house wife and files her tax jointly with her husband, so under the income question on number 9, there is no option of what she is currently employed as. should she just write it on the top of question 9 or on a separate sheet of paper that she is a house wife?

also, on number 10 where it asks what her current individual annual income is, what should she put there? $0 since she is not working?

I have a copy of their 2009 federal income tax return, so for question 11 on the "most recent total income" is she supposed to use her husband number of total income?!?? or put zero?

Thank you guys... sorry for all the question but i am so confused and worried sick. I just want to get things right and cant use logic when i am feeling this way!! :(

#9 Check Unemployed and on the side write "homemaker".

#10 type "0" "N/A - homemaker"

#11 if they file taxes jointly they would use her husbands total income.

You will be fine. Good luck!

Is it the wife that is the sponsor?

I thought the husband was working and she was a housewife and they filed jointly?

Perhaps I didn't look at the form well enough, but I thought those lines were for the sponsor himself, not the spouse. Did I see it wrong? We never used a co sponsor, so we never filled it out.

Why is the person who is helping you sponsor your husband filling out this I-864A, unless this person is a member of your household... This form is filled out if you, the sponsor do not earn enough and there is someone in your household who "is promising to make his or her income and/or assets available to the sponsor to help support the sponsored immigrant."

If you as the sponsor of your husband do not make enough to qualify, then whoever acts as the joint-sponsor would fill out an i-864 for your husband. (You are still the primary sponsor and fill out an I-864 as well.)

Are you sure that your joint sponsor's income is sufficient to support his household (however many members there are) and your husband? The way I'm reading the request from the consulate indicates that the joint sponsor's income may be insufficient, so that is why they are requesting the I-864A from his spouse. (They have no way of knowing that his spouse is unemployed).

Oh I see now. There is not a section for the spouse. Sorry I was confused on that.

but they wouldn't ask for the sponsor's spouse to fill out anything unless the sponsor's income doesn't qualify, would they?

It does seem odd, but I can only add speculation on this since I never needed one.

To the OP, did the co sponsor fit within the income guidelines?

^^^ I never needed one either, but in reading the I-864 and I-864A instructions I understood that the latter is to be used only if the person who fills out the former does not have enough income to qualify. So if the consulate is asking FJ to get an I-864A from the spouse of whoever filled out the I-864 and is her joint sponsor, it leads me to think that the joint-sponsor's income is insufficient.

FreeJerusalem, without giving details, but are you sure that your joint sponsor's income is sufficient and is 125% the poverty guidelines for the size of his household + your husband. For example if the joint sponsor's household is 4 people - husband, wife and 2 kids - then his income would need to be 125% above the poverty guideline of $25,790 (poverty level for 5 people)...so an income of $32,238 would be needed.

(They have no way of knowing that his spouse is unemployed).

i already filled out an i864 long ago and also had the "husband" fill one out too. when we went for our interview the CO said everything was fine as far as the affidavit of support. Now i get an email saying something else. "Kindly send an i-846A to include spouses income for (name of the person who helped us with our affidavit of support) joint sponsorship." that is all they said... does this mean since she does not work it can affect us getting a visa ???? HELP please
