Thank you for the support Spec.

Great explanation!

I have found that most of these people on the CDC board are college professors.

You can Google their university and just send them a quick, and very brief email.

Do you think that would be more or less effective than contacting my Senator/Congressperson? I want to know the best way of making my voice heard, in a fairly time-effective manner.

Well, every time I use my senator, it takes a couple of days because you need to file an inquiry request.

By now though, I can just call and say hey so and so its me, and they know whats up.

The vote on this though is Wednesday.

My only thought was get an email, a phone message, something! and just in one or two very polite and kind sentences, to say whether or not you are against the requirement, cost, efficacy, whatever.

It might stay in their mind until Wednesday.

This is Janet Englund MD.

On the agenda she is giving the introduction.

Maybe if enough of us called, she would mention something about it.

Her number at work is listed here.

Remember, if you call these people, you MUST BE CIVIL AND SINCERE.

The nicer and more appreciative of their time you can be, the better.

We are not trying to badger anyone, just to make ourselves heard.

I first want to say that I think it's great that you're standing up for what you believe in. My biggest issue is with people who complain but do nothing. So hats off to you for standing up for yourself.

I also just want to encourage everyone to do their own research on the vaccine and come to their own opinion. Yes it's expensive, but I would hope that wouldn't be the reason to be against it. My personal thought, if I wasn't too old for the vaccine I would have gotten it.

The reason being, men don't know they're carriers of HPV... unless you're marrying a virgin man you are putting yourself at risk for a preventable disease if you don't have the vaccine.

So again, I commend you for taking action but I also encourage people to do their own research. I encourage people to look into things that I support too.

im trying to find news on this... still nothing on the CDC webpage..

All they did was vote to recommend Cervarix for 11 and 12 year olds and endorse the use of Gardasil in boys 9 to 26 (but did not recommend it). http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/booster_sh...il-in-boys.html

As it stands now, the HPV vaccine is still required for immigrants. What we're really waiting on is to see if this proposal is ever adopted: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/laws_regs/fed...dex_vaccine.htm

I'm actually offended that someone in this thread is saying "then don't move to the U.S".

Do you realise how ignorant that is? If you want to go down that path, then immigrants can never complain about ANYTHING because it will always be "then don't move here". Life is not black and white.

I have the right to complain when I'm forced to get a vaccine as part of an immigration law. Just as you have the right to complain that you pay too much tax in your state, or your food service wasn't great at a specific restaurant, or you have unfair laws. You CHOOSE to live in that state, you CHOOSE to eat in that restaurant, just as us immigrants have chosen to live in America. Doesn't mean we can't complain. Because in the same vain, you could also choose to leave the state/restaurant/country. Technically, we ALL have a choice to live where we wish (you might have obligations in the state or country that means you can't simply "just move", but immigrants have given up their former lives to move too).

The reason people complain about the vaccine is because of the illogic behind it. I've only ever had sex with my husband and have never had any STD's. I am not a risk to America or to myself. No moreso than any US citizen. I've had doctors in both the UK *and* the US tell me that it's pretty pointless to get the vaccine, even moments before they gave it to me. It works before you become sexually active (which is why they're giving it to schoolgirls). I don't see why I am forced to get a vaccine that both myself and my husband do not want AND healthcare professionals advise against - when USC's aren't required to get it at all. It almost seems like they're testing the new vaccine on immigrants in order to benefit US citizens. And it's costing an arm and a leg to get it too ($170 per shot? Wow).

Make it a choice, sure. Make it compulsory and you're going to get a lot of "hysteria". I'm sure Americans would be doing the same thing if they were forced to get it.
