Not sure where you have been, but I said we had issues to address in this country but I cant address them with somebody that goes 24/7 telling me how shittty america is, constructive criticism is the way to go and quit thinking that ever conservative is a right wing wacko.

I like conservatives more than the "liberal/progressive" yanks. Heck I am conservative. However, we have totally polar views on federal governments, health care, regulation, the free market and what country first means.

For me, country first literally means our country first. Aka not just what's in it for me. Country first means we all put in a bucket and use it to improve our country, to give back to the country that allows me to earn this money in the first place. Also know as gratitude. Not to mention invest in our people, so they too can be productive members of our society, rather than in ghettos and on welfare. Furthermore, I too benefit by investing in them as we end up with more active consumers. Not to mention a much nice country to live in. Whereas, ghettos and poverty in my country reflects on me. Republicans seem to be oblivious to this.

As an example, Republican 101: As long as I have a Cadillac or Range Rover, who cares about the quality of the roads in my country. A view not shared in one other industrialized nation, not even amongst conservatives. Only 3rd world countries think like that, hence being 3rd world. Where the rich just buy expensive toys to ignore the state of their country.

you're conservative??? that's LAUGHABLE. look at your comments. you toe the line with the leftest of the left. i don't even think you can see the center from there!!

and to back Simpson's statement, if my SO trashed my country as much as BY trashes his SO's country, that would be a deal breaker for me. regardless of the positives and negatives of this nation, it is my home. wherever i go, it will be a part of me, just as it is for BY's SO. to spit on it the way BY does is to disrespect the very person whom he's pledged to share his life with.

and don't come back with this "ohh, i loooove america; don't get me wrong; blah blah blah" your track record is clear.

 Well put, I couldn't imagine my SO talking about my country the ways he talks about america. Its funny when he comes back with that I love america nonsense, well if that was love then I wouldn't want any part of it.

What I did say is that he would been happier if the woman he fell in love with was from Europe, more agreeable audience over there to his opinions about the govs role in our lives.

...because there cannot be diversity of opinion in the US?

 Good grief what are you talking about, more people in Europe support the sort of paid vacations Booyah was referring too. Diversity of opinion

So what? You are still saying that your view of how America is is the only valid one and those who think differently should move elsewhere if they want to be happy. That's at best silly and at worst...well.

Shut up BY, I can argue your case much better than you can ;)

See you keep doing that, were did I say that if you dont like america you should move somewhere else? What I said was that he would be happier in a place that is more to his liking as far as the govs role in our life. Which brings us to what is valid, Where do you think he is going to get more claps for the sort of paid vacations that he would like to see? I say Europe, you?

More importantly, where did I say that you did?

ah yes I stand corrected you did say "if they want to be happy" So tell me where did I go wrong in assuming that somebody would be happier with a government that supported and stood by the individuals views?

You went wrong in assuming that anyone's happiness is somehow dependent on this marginal difference between governmental systems.

Your approach that our differences are subtle doesnt work for me, Finland 39 paid days USA 10, a huge difference and then theres how we handle health care, do I need to say more.

Its funny how for the sake of this argument your all of a sudden acting like were the spitting image of Europe and not the red headed step child, fail. (that was for you AJ)

Well, there you go, they are huge and important in your head, but in mine (having lived under various different systems) in the scheme of things, they are actually not that big. I have never claimed that European and American political systems are separated by chasms. Clearly they are not as all are based on a system of Capital markets and democratic governments.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

You really seem to go out of your way to complicate things, that must be the European in you. :jest: but seriously you dont think that the differences I point out above could change ones mood? You dont think Booyah would be happier in Finland?

I don't claim to know what combination of circumstances would make BY happy and I really don't care but it's clear that you not only care, but believe you hold the keys to his happiness. I call that bizarre quite frankly.

Yet I say again Finland - has a higher standard of living.

Do I need to list all the other countries that have more than double the amount of paid days.

Is that a question?

its logical to assume a person would be happier with a government they approve of, I of course was only able to obtain this knowledge because I hold the keys to happiness.

It was a rhetorical question.

Simpson, governments are democratically elected in both the US and Europe - hence after a fixed (or not so fixed) term, they change. Happiness is the democratic process, not a one party state ;)

What would that prove?

Lets take a look at what I said and how you responded.

Your approach that our differences are subtle doesnt work for me, Finland 39 paid days USA 10, a huge difference and then theres how we handle health care, do I need to say more.

Yet I say again Finland - has a higher standard of living.

So what does it prove? I would say that what it proves is that you brought nothing to the debate about mentioning that Finland has a higher standard of living. Keep in mind we were talking about the differences and how they might affect ones mood.

So my mistake was that I didnt say his happiness was limited to the political process? I dont see any big changes soon so I would wage that hes got a good couple years of happiness left.

You know what really needs to be addressed is the fact that he comes here and bitches constantly about how shittty things are here, all the while with plans of moving back to Australia as he carries the 'I care" flag with him. Its BS, he doesnt care you have to know that, is that something we could agree on at least?

You know Simpson, its entirely possible that we are talking about entirely different things and this is intentional.

You can prove fairly easily that many countries in Europe have a better standard of living than the US. There are international rankings for such things - US is ahead of the UK but behind Finland.

Happiness of course is not easy to quantify, given that its entirely qualitative.
