uhhhh NO, you can't be lookin all crazy when we are together...and don't want nobody saying they saw him lookin all crazy when I wasn't around.... I do the same with my kids... can't be all mash up and say you know me!!!

(this from the woman who wore leopard print pj's and rasta lion jacket to target 2 weeks ago!!! ) ...but that was a one time thang.... yeah right....

but remember i say, he not THAT bad.. wearing dress shoes w/ polo shirt, stuff like that.. and always got his shirt tucked in.. he ain't THAT big and that tucking just emphasizes the skinniness LOL.. take ya shirt out man

Ells, while I see where you're coming from with the frustration, I doubt the man is intentionally trying to interfere with your plans. He's probably just thinking about his own plans & not how they'll affect others. While most people do that sometimes, some people do it more often than others. If you had plans, you might just respond to his note & say what you had planned.... see if you two can come to a win-win.

i too would be nervous.. i don't like company party's, (unless they are at night GO FIGURE) too much faking and shaking.. i dread when they are gonna ask to throw me a shower..

It was great. Lots of people and TONS of gifts. After we ate cake & opened the gifts, someone asked us to tell our story. So I told it: "First, after sitting where you all are for so many of your showers, it feels GOOD to be on the other side of the table! I'm grateful to you for putting this on and I'm especially glad for the series of events that lead to me and Steven ending up together. Thanksgiving 2 years ago, my family vacationed in Jamaica. Most of the guys there are very charming & flirtatious. Not Steven. My first impression of him was when he asked my cousin if she was pregnant. <they all laughed> He took her ice-eating as a sign of pregnancy, but none of us had heard of that sign, so we just took it as RUDE. But over 10 trips, we hung out more & more and became closer & closer. Last Thanksgiving, he proposed. This Thanksgiving, we're getting married in a very small ceremony, then having a big event next Thanksgiving." Steven then told them that they're all invited. Someone asked if the invitation included transportation.

But seriously, I planned many of my coworkers' wedding showers and went shopping for registry gifts & decorations so many times. It did indeed feel great to be on the receiving end.

We have this debate all of the time....he and I obviously don't have the same fashion savvy. We tend to like the same things but he just had a different take on what goes with what....ughhhhh

Girl, I hear you! For us, it's not about the colors much, but about what is appropriate to wear to what events. Steven planned to wear a thin, slim-fit white & black tshirt to the shower today. I had him put on a polo shirt instead, explaining that at my office, he would stand out WAAAAY too much with a tshirt.

LMAO - DJ loves Browns - when we met, he never wore black - but I fixed that He lives in that shirt - I bought it for his Bday, it's a real Ed Hardy that I got on the clearance rack at Bobs for $10 - when I had $10 in Bob's bucks - so basically it was free, but he was floored that I bought a real Ed Hardy

I get it. Believe me, I get it. Been there done all that. Hate to say it; but it's one of those things only hubby can really learn and then put a stop to.

And, sometimes family does tend to want to be around you when you are doing well and not when you aren't. You know?

ells.. good luck w/ Thanksgiving.. times like these, im kinda glad roger is not real close to his fam LOL..

but i am a big fan of compromise.. everyone knows that roger hasn't seen his kids since June and i know its killing him.. i wanted him to book a trip right after the interview so that he could spend the holidays with them.. Lord knows, i want our first xmas to be special, but there is a bigger picture.. he will most likely have a job soon and can't go see them, and then when he can they will be in school.. he of course protested BIG TIME, but if he needed to make a decision like that, i wanted to let him know i was behind him .

i hate that lehi's dad is not being considerate to ya'll and your plans,and believe me my girl.. i would be a lil teed of myself, but it is the DAY AFTER thanksgiving.. i think if it was the day of, then you should def be on the war path..and your parents live close to the dad?? so its convenient for him to see him while ya'll are there vs back in your neck of the woods right????

If its something he really wants to do, he might be reluctant to tell you if he feels you don't agree.. Tell him how you feel but make sure that he knows the decision is up to him, that will keep him from feeling he was backed into a decison and resenting you for it.

Thanks Q! Thing is, hubby is not real close to his Dad at this point either. Without my influence, he's pretty sure he doesn't want to spend a night without me (yet) so I don't think he'll want a stayover. I will let him decide though without trying to influence him cause you're right, he might just end up resenting me instead. What's ridiculous is that where his Dad lives is 90 minutes from where we live but 2 1/2 hours from where my parents are but he'd rather go that direction. My plans were to visit our friends (who really want to see him & he likes them too), take him bowling for the first time since he's been hounding me about it, & enjoy the time up there. Now his Dad wants to take him for half the weekend...he can go visit him on any other weekend in my view.

Ells - I know it's hard, and easy to be frustrated and judge his father based on what he has done in the past - But the bottom line to it all is that he is your husband's father - and whatever relationship that he has with him is up to your husband to control - if you interfere too strongly in it, all that's going to happen is for your husband to resent you for your actions - not his father for what he did with his life - You also can't take the attitude of that if "it weren't for you and your parents, the man wouldn't even see his son here" - Do you even know how hard it would be for his father to have filed for him? Especially if he didn't come here by 100% legal means -

There are times you need to just bite your tongue back and let your husband find his way and decide what relationship he wants to build with his father - because regardless of what he did in his past, he is his father -

I know it's kind of a bad attitude to have but it's TRUE! Cause he certainly never checked on him while he was in Jamaica but now that it's convenient for him.... The thing I'm doing right though is letting hubby deal with this on his own...I rarely speak to his Dad except to say 'hi' quickly & pass the phone off. I'm not saying his Dad should have filed for him....but I happen to resent the fact that he supported his other children & treated hubby like he didn't exist. There have been a couple times I've wished we never bothered to make contact with him...even hubby has voiced a similar sentiment. He's glad but he's not, if that makes any sense.
