Should Sex Offenders Be Barred from Church?

the issue is what is an sex offender per state laws....there is a different view in states were....a 13 year old dating a 17 year old with parental approval is illegal and falls under the statutes in illinois

Yeah the 21 y/o son of a friend of mine got in trouble a while back because he was having sex with his 17 y/o gf.

That apparently made him a sex offender.

With <16 year olds... well... sure. But 17? The law can get pretty silly sometimes, IMO.

Well in the UK, you can have legally sex when you're 16. There's no age limit on how old your partner should be.

In other parts of Europe I think its as low as 14.

Sorry I didnt respond earlier... I dont agree with banning them from church.. they should be able to go to church with the other sex offenders that get bannished to some far away place such as was done in the past. Not banned from church.. banished from society as a whole...

And spinning that into some kind of pathology is beyond ridiculous. There is a clear difference between sexual abuse of minors and consensual sex between an almost-adult and an adult.

Well in the case of my friend's kid - he actually had to marry the girl in order to negate the State's case. He could well have gone to jail for 15yrs - life because of that DA.

Lets not forget that a 17 year old girl can get herself onto a sex offender list just by taking a photo of herself and passing it on to others. She gets nailed for creating and disseminating child pornography.

Its exactly hysteria. You need only look at the media reporting - its an example of moral panic.

Then I guess just like I can't just say certain ones should be castrated, you can't say people shouldn't be hysterical. Neither can happen at the moment.
