Casting the sinners out is not necessarily in the child's best interest.

I'm for what Poland just did. Allow for the chemical castration of sex offenders, and then there's nothing to worry about.

Well you would be.

Because taking a guy's ####### away removes their sex drive and makes them less physically dangerous.

Not.

Castration is more than the #######. The sex drive would be gone. Less dangerous? I don't know. I guess any criminal that is released is dangerous.

If you knew anything about the psychology of sex crimes you would know the issue is NOT a functioning ####### or increased sex drive. But then again...

I actually do. Having 3 sisters who were victims from their own brothers (they were put into protective costody and eventually into foster care and eventually adopted by my parents)

Chemical/surgical castrations

While most research to date has reviewed surgical castration in Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Germany and Iceland with reported recidivism rates down from 50% to below 5%, Texas has reported repeat offender rates of just 2.2% as compared to a national average of over 20% (the 20% is a low figure but was deduced from a short term study – longitudinal studies show much higher recidivism rates). A report in The New England Journal of Medicine provides further support for the efficacy of chemical castration to reduce recidivism rates, especially that of paedophiles. Depo provera has had widespread overseas use and has proved its efficacy in retarding reoffending although the new drug Triptorelin shows signs of fewer side-effects.

I hate to say it, but MC has taken on the role traditionally held by Joe of "Obstinately Wrong" in this thread :jest:

:)

That is your opinion. However, as GH has suggested, take a look at what these laws are creating. Sex offenders are all branded as pedophiles and rapists when the reality is, they are not. Even those who have committed bad offenses need to be able to live their lives in a fashion that contains their behaviours, not creates the conditions for further wrong doing. An emphasis on exclusion gives a false sense of security and worse.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I never meant to imply that it was some sort of cure all. I just would like to filter out as many potentially dangerous situations my child will encounter as I possibly can.

I think one of the downfalls of the current sex-offender registration system is that there is little differentiation. I went to high school with a guy who is now a sex-registrant because he thought he'd be funny and hung his ####### out the window of his friends car at a football game. My disdain is reserved for rapists, but would I let my kid around the guy I went to school with? Certainly not, he's a tool who was dumb enough to write a message on his ####### with makeup and hang it out the window. How dumb can you get?

These laws create nonviable conditions for sex offenders, regardless of their offenses. The very idea that the way to deal with sex offenders in the community is to ban them from the community is nonsensical. It will not work and it will create a new and probably worse set of problems. If not worse, certainly equally difficult. On top of that you have a bunch of parent's believing they have solved the problem.

It is nimbism of the worst sort.

I am truly sorry to hear about Joe's sisters. I am.

Yet, chemical castration does not solve the psychological roots of child molestation; at all. Try again.

I never claimed that it solved the psychological roots. If you would so kindly bring up that post.

You guys are pros at twisting whatever someone says

Again the data shows that castration works to stop recidivism

Without knowing the offense of the sex offender, how is banning them from church sensible? Yes, of course, limit dangerous situations, but real ones, not imagined.

(F) Poor victims. I believe there should be no tolerance for such behavior. By the second offense, castration should be mandatory. If more action is necessary, a minimum of life in prison should be opted for.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

The fact is, and you can see it plainly in this thread, is that the entire public debate about sex offenders is driven entirely by hysteria and fear.

I don't deny that. I'm just calmly saying to castrate them.

I agree. That was my point when I first responded to this thread. They should not be reinserted in society. Period.
